SunDevil,

Just go grab a pair of the Finch 2nds from the outlets. You'll end up with more $$$ for more shoes. I have a pair of and they're great replacements for that webgem

It is confusing and troubling all at once.

I have never had this issue with any other AE lasts.

Do you find it is something that eventually goes away? After the partial refund I ended up scoring these shoes for 100 bucks flat, and it would suck to let them go...

Maybe a thin insole could take care of it?

Perhaps you guys can help me identify the problem and recommend a solution. I noticed some creasing around the heel of my Presidio's and can not understand why or how to fix it. It seems unnatural as opposed to regular creasing... I posted this in the shoe care thread but did not really get an answer, hoping you gents can help me out!

Anyone know of a "Harrisburg" model? A google search turned up nothing. They're a 5-eyed, rubber soled blucher with a plain cap-toe. Are these cemented shoes from the AE by Allen Edmonds line or are they from the mainline?

Small nails called "clinch nails" are used to hold the heel together when the shoe isn't 360 degree welted.  The heel is lasted snugly, and then the clinch nails are driven through the leather.  When they hit a hard surface, such as the bottom of the last, or an inserted heel plate they bend sideways and provide a permanent grip.  Next, a seat lift is nailed on to provide the first layer for building the heel (seat lift, then heel base, then a couple of layers of leather, followed by the top lift which contacts the ground).

And WTH has happened to this thread? I see 60+ new posts a day, and I assume there's a new controversy! But no, it's just people discussing shoes again. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Most shoes have nails showing because the top lift is nailed on as a final step in the heel building process.  AE's heel base is nailed on, but I believe the top lift (the final piece that contacts the ground) is cemented on.

On the #3 last I size down (similar to #5) however for the #2 I am TTS. Looking for some advise, as I am not aware of any options where I live to try them on. Thanks.

No way the Sanderson is a 3 last. Some people say it is a custom last for RL. It is very close to the 2 last, if not the actual 2. I own it. It runs narrow. It feels and looks the same to me as the 2.

Nice looking pairs!

It does not go away - and I have worn a few pairs many times hoping for just that outcome.

I typically use a thin insole.

'

Thanks for the response, now I am totally confused .... you think it is narrower and shorter than the #5? Maybe the best thing for me is to just stay away from it... live in Canada so it is a bit of a hassle to order it and send it back.

Yes, go with your 5 Last size and go up a width.

First quality Katmai for $133.45 before taxes? That's a steal.

I apologize if this is somewhere in the thread, but after looking back several pages, I could not find a clear answer.

1. There appears to have been an e-mail from the AE CEO (Paul) waiving the MTO fee? Is this correct? If so, it is exclusively for shell or any shoe?

2. I keep seeing "an additional 20% off" thing. Is this an unspoken sale? Exclusive to amazon? or a discount you can get in store? I saw that someone at the jeffersonville outlet received a 20% discount.

If someone could summarize, I would really appreciate it.

All RL models are on custom lasts. Sanderson is on customer last which is very similar to 2. I have sanderson and also ae players(on last 2). Sanderson runs narrow as. I have sanderson in 8E width and they feel like 8B. Unwearable. My players are 8EEE and I feel I could've done better with E or EE on players.
