Allen Edmonds Appreciation Thread - Page 1154
Mine have the old heel. The squeaking doesn't so much seem related to the outsole/heel as much as it does the insole at the heel. And, after reading a few posts here, I have noticed that one corner on each heel has separated slightly from the sole. I'm gonna call AE tomorrow and get this sorted out. I'll post my results.

Was the separation of the heel preceded by a squeak or click when your heel made contact with each step? If so, I'd take a wild guess that it was related to the nails working themselves loose. If it happened all of a sudden, I wouldn't think that was the reason. Now, if it happened from flexing the shoe with your hands, while it wasn't on your foot, it's possible that it was forced apart.
I'm not accusing you, but I thought I'd throw a couple ideas out there.
As far as exchanging the shoe, I feel that throws a new variable into the situation. If the picture weren't so clear, I'd think you were just looking for an excuse to get a different shoe (buyer's remorse). It might happen, but I think the legitimate outcome is to get the shoe repaired. Actually, I think that's what they'll do since heels aren't a major item and might not justify replacing a whole pair of shoes.
Please keep us posted as to how this turns out.
Side note: If the shoe were completely defective, to the point of being replaced entirely, I could see time and manufacturing availability leading to the substitution of another shoe. (I've been presented this option when a replacement pair failed inspection, but other styles were available. It wasn't an option I presented, but it's an option that may alter the outcome of one of my most recent AE purchases.)
I first noticed this issue today, and I've seen others on here where heel seperation has gotten pretty bad, so I'm trying to potentially catch it early. I'm actually not flexing the heel (although it does look like it); I was just trying to angle it correctly to show the contrast between the black edge and tan interior. Me posting here was to see everyone's opinions and thoughts on the matter, and I appreciate all of the input.
Also, I wasn't trying to make it seem like I was just trying to ditch the shoes because of buyer's remorse or anything - I just polished these babies up last night. I think I just love my walnut McAllisters that much more.
I will keep everyone updated once I speak to an AE representative.

I'm a huge fan of AE's walnut color too, and I have walnut Strands. So, I can see your desire for something other than black shoes. Those look like they're in good shape. If they feel the need to do anything, I bet they'll just repair the heel and send them back to you. I'm not saying that's bad. They're broken in, and new heels would patch you right back up.

PerCC, please post the outcome to this. I could see them saying something like "that could have happened by not picking your foot up high enough when stepping over a curb." I know their customer service is generally highly revered but what is to say that it didn't happen during the normal course of wear? Please do not misunderstand me, I am not attacking you, it's simply a different side of the window.

The right shoe of my Hastings model is doing the same thing after about 8-10 wears. However, I purchased them from Nordstrom Rack and don't feel I have resource. Also, I'm not noticing any real 'performance' issue, just an extremely slight visual cue which I could care less about. As long as the shoes perform as they currently are (even with the slight 'crack' in the heel), I'm a happy camper.
You probably bought seconds, in which case, a "cosmetic defect" would be expected.

Do these shoes do anything for you? I have to admit that I am somewhat infatuated with them. Part of it is that they are Strands, amongst my favorite AE's. The other part is that they are suede; I recently was trying to scratch the suede itch for the first time. I popped that cherry when I found the chocolate suede Player's in my size.
I have other needs; Bourbon Strands come to mind as do chocolate Dalton's.
I have no idea what I would wear them with. They feel like a novelty, but the infatuation is there nonetheless. Perhaps it is the get 'em now or never aspect to them.
Went into the local brick and mortar today to pick up some suede protector. I ended up taking a peek at these in person cause they looked pretty cool. In hand the contrast between the stitching and suede is just too stark. The leather is like the deepest/truest navy color (almost black), while the stitching is a super light/sky blue. Did not dig it. Really none of the colors were that nice. The closest one to making it on my feet were the brown ones, but the fluorescent pink stitches just killed them...
Next to them though was something interesting that I have yet to see before. There were two pairs of suede wingtips (blue and white) on what looked like red brick soles. I haven't seen them online and they looked pretty spectacular. Maybe upcoming rough collection additions? I might have to go back to try them on sometime because they looked pretty great.
Color comparison: #8 LHS (Left), cigar LWB (Center), brown shell Patriot (Right)
Patriot (R) next to BB LHS (L)
The Patriot (9D) is slightly shorter and wider than the LHS (8.5D)

Earlier this month I saw a post on AA about a pair of shoes not currently on the AE site.
The link for the thread is:
and the pic of the white pair seen in the Philadelphia store:
A pair of them popped up on eBay a few months back, and I regretted missing them. If they're coming back, they'll probably come to my summer wardrobe.
I tried Delray 10D at a store few weeks ago, they fit right, but I bought PA.
I bought 10D recently online. And it seems I have some space all around instep. And I tend to lace them tight.
Wanted to try order C, but they only make B.
Is there a bit difference between B and D please? Like more than 1/3 inch?
Thanks!
