Besides, who would like to see the same shell shoes on their feet for 20 years?

I want my shoes to last that long without a question.  I think that's one of the points of buying high-end shoes and caring for them so meticulously.

I think it was a mistake. Shell was not included in the sale, but they honored the price for the gent they misinformed.

Usually the shell seconds are on sale for $399, or thereabouts.

I am 100% sure, that's not the case. It was stated as Brown cordovan. And I believe AE doesn't use term cordovan as color reference, they use burgundy or merlot for similar color.
Oh well, est. package arrival is coming Monday so we will see.

Well, Boardwalk Empire is the 20's (and that's where Nucky Thompson wears shoes similar to these - seriously, google "Nucky Thompson shoes" and check out the pics if the shoes in the surf. They're spectacular - cooler than mine, I must say.)

Yes the clifton is discontinued.

First brag on the thread. Called shoebank today, spoke to Nathan. Ended up getting 2 pairs of Patriot Shell (Burgundy +black) for $179/piece. He said once every few years they release some shell for a new product. He inspected them and sent them to me. Excited and will post some pics up once I recieve. Oh, and BTW there is one more pair of Shell patriots in brown (size 9 D) in case anyone wants them.

Picked up a set of AE Cliftons at NR this afternoon in exactly my size. I had the salesman check: not seconds; returns. A little bit of wear on the soles but more than 50% off list. I had them under my arm like a nuclear football until I got to the register.

And my God, they feel amazing. These are my first grown-up (over $150 list) shoes and these are several steps up the ladder of awesome from any other shoe I've worn.

suede loafers, yes or no? Thinking about the McGraw in Chocolate. Currently have Larkin in black and Presidio in burgundy.

While the Clifton is not offered on the AE website it is a current model, sold by Nordstrom.

Now that I've put the task of polishing my Brooks Brothers black Park Avenue behind me (seen earlier in this thread), my current challenge is polishing my Brooks Brothers walnut Strand.

The broguing and embellishments are making it difficult to apply polish. FYI, I am using neutral-coloured polish, spit-shining thin coats with a polishing cloth.

The shoe's design is trapping polish in the little broguing holes and the little "stair-steps" between the lower and raised surfaces of this particular style, leaving a whitish residue in those spaces.

Consequently, it's taking longer than I thought to polish, unlike the Park Avenue which is mostly a smooth shoe without any raised surfaces or broguing to trap the polish.

Any advice polishing brogues would be greatly appreciated! smile.gif Thanks in advance! smile.gif

I think I mentioned it the last time you posted about this, but a horsehair brush can really help knock polish out of those crevices.
