I wouldn't get carried away on the shell is better than calf argument. Shell is nice to look at and all but I've found shell shoes to be 1) heavier 2) hotter on my feet. I don't see how anyone in a hot weather city like Houston could wear shell, but that's just me. I've handled some soft calf leather in my day. Besides, who would like to see the same shell shoes on their feet for 20 years?

Awesome. They look like Nucky Thompsons shoes. I got some red and whites, and I was thinking of using venetian creme on them. Then neutral polish as needed.

From what I read from the original quoted post, I don't believe the shoes were shell cordovan. It is commonly mistaken for cordovan, which is a color that shoes can come in.

I just got my Larchmonts.  Cool shoe but slight problem.  The shoelace holes don't look aligned.  Is this normal?  Anyone have this model w/same problem?

Wow - it honestly never would have occurred to me to make a shoe like this, but these look fantastic. I guess I don't watch enough 40's TV shows (is that even the right era?)!
