I think that explanation only goes part way towards explaning things. When I look @ my McTavish's they are discernibly wider than my other 5 last shoes, and by a wide margin. This cannot be solely explained by the type of leather used but also due to some "adjustments" to the last; imo of course.

Thicker leather and a double oak sole with a reverse welt will definitely come out as a wider shoe. Yes, they seem bigger, but I'm pretty sure they're using the same lasts.

I was looking at the AE catalog from last fall, and saw this page on recrafting. Apropos to the previous conversation about overpolishing shoes, you can send your shoes in to AE for refinishing only.

Yes, or you could go the website...

I'm so conditioned to think that their site is bad that I didn't even bother to check...
I think if an SA here does see it, they could put you on the mailing list. There is at least one SA that follows this thread, though probably not too closely.
Is it OK to mention AE items for sale in the SF Footwear Section? I don't want to break the rules, but it would definitely be a brief plug.
Thanks,
CH
I used Lincoln Brown Shoe Polish. I apply it generously, and then apply a dab of warm water to an area, and then work small circles, adding more water until I get a high shine. I do this to the entire shoe. Then I do the toe a second time so I get a real high shine on the toe. Then hit it with my buff cloth.
You got to be careful of that good Bourbon! Good luck, most of my transactions with the shoe bank has resulted in outstanding pairs of shoes.
Looks like today was another one of those days for shinning shoes, and a lot of great pictures!! Of course I got the bug too, go figure. Nothing but a damp rag and lots of brushing. First time for this picture, 3 AE walnut shells. Never mind the Alden Ravello at the end it is an imagination of the figmentation.... And they needed love too!

Luv that walnut shell, very nice.

I asked a SA last week that question and he told me that he would likely know about the same time that we will. He also mentioned that AE had a good supply of shell in 2 new colors, but didn't know what colors. I had never talked to him before and not sure about the validity of his statement. But if true.... I'm holding off on purchasing anything else for awhile just in case.
Two new colors damn I am going to be divorced.
