I recall someone saying they wanted to see Cliftons in the wild. My new dark brown Cliftons arrived yesterday from the ShoeBank. Just hit them with a quick application of AE polish. Off to the local cobbler tomorrow for Topy soles. 9th pair of AE's, love 'em all so far.

I am about to head out now, otherwise I would.

The color reminds me of well-worn Horween #8, without the unmatchable shell patina and shine of course.

I am probably going to darken the russet pair up with a light coat of black and a coat of blue to get them to be a dark burgundy.

These things are so comfy.

I hope yours come soon (and look great!)

Cool, I am gonna hit mine up with Reno when they arrive.

I also have these in brown. Best color for a great shoe, IMO. Great choice, and enjoy them!

Bucksfan - Sincere thanks, these are frickin amazing.
I've gone over them with a fine toothed comb looking for the reason that it might be a second.
Inside and out, I've found NO defects, not even tiny/borderline ones, which is impressive since I've had way too many first quality AE shoes/boots come in with obvious defects.
I ordered the Rust/Russet pair, in 9.0 (Perfect fit for me in the 5-Last) as well as 8.5 (Thought I might size down half a size to be safe if the 9 was too large).
I also ordered a Tan pair in 9.0 (Took a gamble on the sizing by not ordering in 8.5 as well), they should come in by Thursday and I am hoping that they are equally as nice.
Turns out the 9.0 is PERFECT, so I would call these true to size, just like my 744LTDs. I am wearing them now and they are insanely comfortable.
The Tan color is likely going to be too bright out of the box for my taste (Looks to be the same color as awful timberland boots), so I will darken them.

Interested to hear more fit stories on these. Is the 8.5D way too tight? How do you like to wear your boots?

bucksfan what a fantastic combo. I wish the shoebank would have had those shoes in my size.

I have a pair of the red Neumoks that I love, but find it hard to pair with much other than a red striped polo and jeans... I am not very creative on mixing top color with shoes at this point.

I have gone back and forth on the russets for the past few days and the one limiting factor is my experience with my red Neumoks and how I would pair these red beauties.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Depends on how red the red is, and it already sounds like it is muted like I hoped. I will do the same as kennkim but with black and chili most likely. I find #8 shell to be one of the most versatile colored shoes that I own. Even burgundy\merlot. Crossing a line to actual red not so sure but I plan on using them mainly as a jean boot and olive or tan khakis, etc. The tan one is what I have a hard time with as I prefer to have my shoes and boots a bit darker than my pants. Sounds like the tan may not fit as I had to go down a half size because they didn't have my size available in tan TTS. Good chance there will be another pair of 9.5D in tan available soon at the shoebank.

i'm a pretty solid 10D in the 5-65 (strand and neumok) and the 8 last (delray, clifton) so i figured based on the descriptions, a 10D in the 1-511 would also work.
the (used) Bradley's just arrived, and they are TINY. super tiny. i would think they were a 8.5D or 9D, not a 10D.
how do you guys adjust from your 5 / 8 last sizes to get a proper fit in the 1 last?

Shows how different feet can be even though we are the same size. The Malvern is a statistical flyer, they used memory foam in the foot bed and it is tighter than any other 1 last. I am a 10D in both 1 and 5 last and I have quite a few in both, all 10D with the exception of the 3 rough collection shoes which are 9.5D. The 5 fits me slightly better than the 1 but until I got my first 5 last thought the 1 was the most comfortable fit I had ever had in my life. I can not get into the 8 last to save my life no matter what combination I tried, it was too tight, short, or too long. I've tried on a couple pair of Bradley's (shell but they bowed and I returned them) and the fit was spot on in 10D, however several have said that they had to go up a half size in the Bradley.

Thanks for the kind comments, gentlemen.  I really like the shoes, and I actually just got a call from the tailor of that suit, asking if I was ready for another suit or a sportcoat...

You are welcome, Kennkim - I hope you enjoy the boots, and I hope everyone else's come in the same condition and fit as well!

Another data point for the Bradleys discussion: I wear the same size in Bradley as all my other Allen Edmonds in 1, 5, 7 and 4 lasts.  The only boot I deviated from my normal size in is the chromexcel bayfield, in which I went up one width to fit thicker socks; however, the Bradleys are definitely the tightest of them all.  I attribute this to the stitched NST detail.  Mine in shell have loosened up a little over the 18 months or so I have owned them, and they fit me very well now.  Sorry to hear they were so far off for you, mexicutioner and sevenfold.

I just got my Jeffersons from Amazon. The pic was taken after I tried walking around in it for 6 hours outdoors.

For my first 'real shoe', I didn't realise that the sole would be so hard. How long does it take for the shoe to break in anyway? Does anyone use insoles for AEs?

Is this uneven burnishing far too noticeable, and should I return this pair for another? Or should I simply grab darker polish and try to burnish both toe caps myself?

It isn't that bad.  It gives it character.  If it doesn't bother you, then it shouldn't bother anyone else.  Some people are picky just knowing it is there.  I would live with it.

Thanks KMD, and I'll agree with your dark brown comment - I have AE's now in Walnut, Chili and Dark Brown (and Black), and find myself reaching more often lately for the DB, esp if I'm wearing a suit. Wish AE had a finish midway between Bourbon and Dark Brown...

Outstanding!  You got a pair that has very little welt extending beyond the sleeker 8 last toe, which makes this a great looking shoe.  Agree with you on the color as well as I reach for my dark brown captoes and dark brown Delrays more than any other shoe.

Just got my first pair of AE delivered, walnut strands :)

Fantastic especially for the price from the Cyber monday sale.  Seem to have pretty much nailed my size too - well guessed accurately - 8.5D, potentially could go an E but I like them snug.

Unfortunately though I have a sneaky suspicion if the 8.5D's fit me that neither the 8.5D nor 9.5D of the Dalton I ordered is likely to be the right fit >.<  oh well will know next week and live and learn.

Now just need my matching walnut belt to arrive and ill be set, in the meantime guess I will hit up the shoe care thread and see what I need to order to keep these looking good, the darker walnut look some of you have pulled off is fantastic.  Think though once I work out what size Dalton I am the Shell Cordovans will be my next purchase

Which other captoes do you own? Speaking of the Delray, I have it in Chili and Black, but may have to pick it up (or the Lasalle) in Dark Brown as well

I called the Jeffersonville AE store looking for them.  They are able to see what is available in all locations.  I was told there were only a few left in black and just a couple in rust.  I am new to AE shoes and was recommended to this sight.  The information on here is great.  Does anyone recommend a great pair of shoes to get me started?
