I'm not even a fan of the Daltons, but I would rock these in a heartbeat. Well done.

I would agree that the brown Strands would be more versatile than walnut. You can wear brown with just about anything but black. With walnut, you have to be more careful with which gray you wear it with and some people do not like walnut with navy (I personally like it).

I am considering the brown Strand as my next purchase.

No problem. Cordovan care, although much discussed, seems a little overdone on these boards. Some regular brushing (60-90 seconds per shoe) and buffing goes a long way in keeping them looking good. You should be fine right out of the box for a dozen or more wearings just doing that, and only using some paste wax or conditioner for touch ups. Enjoy!

Get walnut Strands and brown Delrays - best of both worlds.

Even a pair of darker shell chukkas would do fine in a more casual office environment.

Started with a pair of captoe work boots in late 2008 or so and then a pair of beeswax DBs a while later. Got me used to the idea of boots.

Then I added things like some Daltons and some 4-hole RL chukkas (no idea as to the maker...I think they say Italy), some black chelsea boots...
My "normal" shoe collection has some gaping holes, but boots are great. Boots sort of fill some of the holes in the shoe collection but I would like to fill them with normal shoes...and then maybe add another pair of boots or two

 

Brown Strands, either in calf or in shell, are on my "want" list.

 

AE is coming out with the Strand in bourbon soon.  The supplement catalog says October 15th.  That would be a fantastic compromise between the walnut and brown.

Thanks a lot, Chris. That's definitely an option worth looking into. Another option would be to special order a pair of Daltons with the titan (which I believe is Dainite-like) sole. I called AE today and they said the upcharge would be $75 and the shoes, of course, would be non-returnable. Any input on this guys?

So, I received my first pair of AE today. I was looking for some casual shoes that I could beat up and look better with some patina. I ordered the Lubbock as it seemed like a nice casual shoe for $200

It is what it is. The finishing was just passable. I understand that it is supposed to be a rough-finished type shoe but glue drips and stains on the leather from where the patina was added are a little rougher than what I am used to. The last is nothing special--a little blobby but better than some AE and Alden I have seen. However, the fit is not quite right. The heel is a bit too big and even with the buckle clamped all the way down there is some slippage with my foot wanting to come out. It may have to do with the elastic behind the buckle (why would they do that?).

Anyway, it seems like my first foray down market is going to be a return.

I thought there were other brands that did that with their monk strap shoes too.
