Good point. My walnut('s?) are really starting to settle and form to my feet, it'll be interesting to see where the BB's go with the poron insole.

My shoes are out for delivery according to UPS. Admittedly nervous and excited! I'll be sure to give updates tonight! :slayer:

E folks, can I ask for help? I'm in the market for dark brown boots and I'm torn between the Fifth Street and the Dalton. The key for me is VERSATILITY where I can wear them either with dress pants or jeans.

I do not have any wingtips yet but own several cap-toes (Strand, Van Ness, Park Ave). Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Fifth Street (brown burnished) -- $350 retail

Dalton (dark chocolate) -- $375 retail

What do you guys think?

i have AE fifth street boots in brown and i love them. the last feels a little narrow to me, compared to my AE norwich. but they are very comfortable and versatile, and yes I wear them with jeans or a suit.

all that said, both those and the daltons look outstanding -- you can't go wrong with either of those pics. good luck!

I have the fifth street in brown and I love them also. They are pretty sleek (though not as sleek as bals on the 5 last. The Daltons look great but might be too clunky under dress pants

I feel like the Fifth Street may be too dressy for jeans while the Daltons may be too casual for dress pants. The question becomes, which one is more versatile?

I have both, although the Dalton's are walnut shell so lighter than the chocolate Dalton's. If had to pick between the two I would error on the side of over dressed than under dressed. Personally I feel the Fifth Street is better with a suit than the Dalton, but the Dalton works well with dress pants and a sport coat & tie. I have worn the Fifth St. with jeans (but not often) and feel it works fine so the Fifth St. is more versatile to me if your wearing them with a suit too. If not a suit but a sport coat and tie either one would work IMO. But the Fifth St. is still more formal to my eye. Which ever one your comfortable with (including fit) and works for you is what matters in the end.

Thanks Cold Iron. Personally, I wouldn't wear either of those with a suit (because of the broguing).

I wear business casual to work (dress pants & sportcoat, no tie), and I'm glad that you think the Daltons will work with this attire. I have no qualms wearing it with jeans.

On the other hand, I feel that I have enough cap toe shoes (PA, Van Ness, Strand) which would be against getting the Fifth Street.

Right now, I'm probably 70/30 on the Daltons.

when purchasing 2nds what usually is included?

any AE loafers worth recommending?
I know these loafers aren't AE, but I was wondering what color
would this be close too? walnut or brown?

Are they your loafers? If so, what make and model are they?

Just to double double check. AE will recraft 2nds. Right?

yes.

guys, how are you finding the 1 last to fit. Picked up a set of 10Es in the 2 last (carlsbad), but stuck with my normal 10D in the malvern, which is on the 1 last. Biggest concern for me is the toe box.

what say you?

thanks.

I think the 1 last is weird. It is supposed to fit large, and that's what I found with the Leeds. The Malvern, however, fit small in the toe box, and I had to size up half a size. I'll avoid the 1 and the 2 in the future. 5 and 8 fit great, though.

The Malvern is a weird one on the 1 last, it was too tight for me in the toe box and I returned it. Going down in size and up in width had too much heel slippage. But the Shelton, Leeds (shell & calf), Wilbert (brown & black), Dalton, Bradley, Bayfield (brown & black) all fit me fine in the toe box. However my Shelton's are older and someone posted not long ago that he had replaced his older Shelton with a newer pair and the newer pair was tighter in the toe box. So I think at least some of the #1 last shoes are going to vary, depending on the model. The Malvern is definitely the tightest toe box on the #1 last that I have seen. Ordered the Katmai in the current sale and they should be at the house tonight, my main concern is that they are modeled too closely to the Malvern in fit.
