AE folks, can I ask for help? I'm in the market for dark brown boots and I'm torn between the Fifth Street and the Dalton. The key for me is VERSATILITY where I can wear them either with dress pants or jeans.
I do not have any wingtips yet but own several cap-toes (Strand, Van Ness, Park Ave). Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Fifth Street (brown burnished) -- $350 retail
Dalton (dark chocolate) -- $375 retail
What do you guys think?
I feel like the Fifth Street may be too dressy for jeans while the Daltons may be too casual for dress pants. The question becomes, which one is more versatile?
I have both, although the Dalton's are walnut shell so lighter than the chocolate Dalton's. If had to pick between the two I would error on the side of over dressed than under dressed. Personally I feel the Fifth Street is better with a suit than the Dalton, but the Dalton works well with dress pants and a sport coat & tie. I have worn the Fifth St. with jeans (but not often) and feel it works fine so the Fifth St. is more versatile to me if your wearing them with a suit too. If not a suit but a sport coat and tie either one would work IMO. But the Fifth St. is still more formal to my eye. Which ever one your comfortable with (including fit) and works for you is what matters in the end.
On the other hand, I feel that I have enough cap toe shoes (PA, Van Ness, Strand) which would be against getting the Fifth Street.
Right now, I'm probably 70/30 on the Daltons.
Just to double double check. AE will recraft 2nds. Right?
guys, how are you finding the 1 last to fit. Picked up a set of 10Es in the 2 last (carlsbad), but stuck with my normal 10D in the malvern, which is on the 1 last. Biggest concern for me is the toe box.
what say you?
thanks.
