Allen Edmonds Appreciation Thread - reviews, pictures, sizing, etc... - Page 660

Thanks for all the feedback on my super long post about PTB's and my used shell projects, guys.

I too had some pretty bad "dress" shoe choices for several years as a young lawyer before I recently got into this shoe obsession.  I thought it might be fun if some of you with similar stories (like the Ecco recovery group comment, above) posted a pic of past indiscretions.  I have gotten rid of all but two of my old shoes, both super comfortable Rockports, one in dark brown, one in black.  Around Christmas of last year, I wore the dark brown ones to Mobile to visit family. I actually packed nice clothes (a first) including some of my new slacks, button downs, ties, and a sport coat, all appropriately fit and tailored, but I wore the old Rockports, because I didn't want to worry about ruining my nice shoes or because of comfort concerns (I can't remember what I was thinking).

That was the last time I have worn the Rockports. I couldn't get past the mental discomfort.

Without further ado, I present:   Anti-Shoe-Porn, or Shoe Pornuglify (trademark)

The thing is just about any mall store you go to all they do is carry square toe shoes. I don't get it why that is all they carry for the most part. For this reason everyday people just don't know any better. If you were to put AE at some of these stores next to other shoes I'm sure there would be a few who would pick AE and even think 'hmmm that looks like a better shoe'.

I think it might be because they fit similar to athletic/running shoes.  Personally, I didn't know how dress shoes were supposed to fit until recently, and I could see how the square-toe shoes would be more comfortable in comparison to athletic shoes.

I read somewhere that it is cheaper to produce a square toe shoe as well, so the manufacturers like it too

I wore my cappuccino shell Dundees today. They've been in my regular rotation since I got them in April. I think they are looking really good. I've been using Alden's Leather Defender on these and thought they worked very well.

I am thinking about ordering the new webgem cordovan boots as my go to winter boot, but I am worried about the leather soles. Do you think they would be alright as long as there is only a few cm of snow?

Thanks guys

Don't intentionally wear them in the snow. Just get overshoes.

Three Halloween-themed webgems have just been added to AE's site.  The Headless Horeseman, Brom Bones, and Sleepy Hollow.

Very nice!  I should have jumped on those.  Need to wait until the "dark brown" comes out now.

I think these themed Webgems are AE's answer to the square-toed bicycle shoe!

just kidding... I think they're fun and appropriate in the right circumstances. wink.gif

As mentioned above, J Crew sells Leather Defender. I got mine from Leather Soul during a trip to Hawaii earlier this year.
