I'm usually in Chukkha boots or tennis shoes when I'm in jeans and only wear chino's a few times in the Summer. Enjoy the shoes.

That described me perfectly until I became single a couple of years ago. And usually well worn and faded jeans at that. I still wear bison chukka boots occasionally, I don't ever see me not having a pair.

I just bought a pair of the kenwoods today.  I wear a size 9.5 in the Strands but I'm a size 9 in these.  They are very comfortable.  Although my heel slips slightly so I put in both tongue and heel pads.  They fit nice and snug now.  

Went in store today as my SA said that there were still some at the factory in 6, 9, and 10 and suggested I try on the tan Kenwoods to get a feel for size. I wear a 9 in the Strands and felt that the 9 Kenwoods (tan) were a bit shorter than my Strands lengthwise. Overall fit was snug, but not constricting. Went ahead and asked her to order the brown grain Kenwoods in 9. Hopefully they fit the same as the tan ones. $99 out the door for them as there is no sales tax on clothing items in NY under $110.

The black and red ones remind me of the first Air Jordans when I was a kid, but sounds like I'm in the minority on this one. Then again, I'm usually in Chukkha boots or tennis shoes when I'm in jeans and only wear chino's a few times in the Summer. Enjoy the shoes.

I'm in suits every day for work, so jeans and chinos are like a uniform on the weekends, until it gets hot, then I live in cargo shorts (I know, not SF approved, but then neither are my vibram five fingers). I've yet to find a pair chukkhas that fits me well; most are far too narrow, and I'm not interested in paying $300 + for boots that I'm going to thrash.

I got my kenwoods yesterday and wore them for about 10 hours today without socks. The lower outer part of my heel has a sore on them due to my heel slipping a little and rubbing up against the heel pad. Is this normal? Will this pain go away after these are broken in? How long will it take me to break them in?

A couple of things can happen:
1) you eventually develop an ugly callous after repeated injury to your heel
2) you give up on that pair

I recommend breaking it in with socks. Once broken in, you can go sockless ... or go for no-show socks.

I'm not sure if a callous will develop or if that part of my heel will just get slightly harder. The irritated part of my heel is, well, irritated but not actually injured to the point that the skin is torn.

I was considering breaking these in with socks, but I have a fear that by breaking them in with socks the leather will stretch making the shoe to big to wear without socks in the very near future.

Kids today and their shoes * * * shakes head in disbelief * * * Grumpy old man rant aside, I'm only 40 and cannot imagine any occasion where I would wear red wingtips or black/red wingtips. Then again, it's been a long time (and three kids) since I regularly hit the bars and other nightlife spots.

My office is casual, like jeans and a tshirt casual. So an unconstructed, rough finish wingtip kinda fits the bill. I see them going well with dark jeans, chinos, and maybe twill.

hes saying hes afraid that breaking them in with socks will stretch them and they will be unwearable when he wants to wear them sockless. Merino socks. theyre thin. Also socks wont stretch the shoes really.

Right. I'd prefer not to wear socks with these shoes. I bought them strictly as a summer shoe. I have several other pairs of loafers and laceups that I wear in the fall/winter with socks.

Honestly, I'd put some lube on my heel if it's rubbing. Though as mentioned previously, painful heel rubbing may be a sign that the shoe is not the right size.

I'm curious if anyone has picked up a pair of Flatirons or Larchmonts. They both have the same last and I was wondering if y'all have had to size down a half (10.5 to 10). Also, how have you liked either of these shoes? Comfortable? Is the last roomy? Too roomy? Looking for a nice calf in walnut and liked the way both looked. I'm an Alden guy but can't afford to go for another shell cordovan, and I'm not sure Alden calf shoes are that much better than AE. Thanks in advance!

Handsewn is the construction of the uppers. Goodyear welted is how the sole is attached to the upper. So a shoe can be handsewn and Goodyear welted - which is what the Kenwood is.

Wrong. At least according to Allen Edmonds. All Goodyear welted shoes are on Goodyear lasts. Handsewn shoes are, according to AE's catalogue, sewn together by hand. They specifically note that many of the loafers (such as the Kenwood) in the Classic line are NOT sewn together with Goodyear construction. Sorry.
