Saw these Players in the Nordstrom Rack on Union Sq. Looked pretty good for 2nds - there may have been a very slight difference in color between the two but it was very minor. I would probably have bought them if they were less a bit less than the $199.97 they were asking for...

Just got my first AEs, Walnut Strand from allaboutshoes. They are fantastic.

I really like the walnut Strands. However, I'm trying to decide between the walnut Strand and the walnut McAllister.

I don't have an AE store near me. I was at my local menswear/shoe store and they have the walnut McAllister in my size. I was talking to them about the upcoming AE sale starting Monday and I that I heard the McAllisters were included. They said they would match the McAllister price in the AE sale. Now I'm very tempted to get the walnut McAllister.

Great color, but that right shoe looks significantly smaller than the other, in both pics...

Suppose that is why they are seconds.

^ +1

The walnut Srand for sure. It has different shades in the shoe that looks really good.

The McAllister in merlot (1000% better if you get them in burgundy shell cordovan) looks classy and the color is rich and deep.

I am sure they are the same size, it is the way he is holding them that makes them appear to be different sizes.

I know of no optical distortion that would make the shoes look different in size as depicted above. I haven't been to a Rack in several years. Last time I was there, they only put one shoe out. You had to ask for the matching if you wanted to try them on. I suspect this is a mix up.

I picked this pair up at a thrift store last summer for $8. They cleaned up pretty nice, if I say so myself.

Nice looking shoes and a great buy! Thanks for all the kind comments, guys. I really like the shell strands too, they go well with almost anything - from khakis and jeans to suits. Like most shell shoes, they are very versatile.

+2 Aye, I agree totally. I have the McAllister in walnut and the Strands in shell walnut. Both the Stands and McAlllister are my most comfortable and now favorite shoes, for my foot anyhow. I got lucky in that my shell Strands are much darker than the calf walnut. If it wasn't for the fact that I have so many burgundy shoes now with more on the way I would have gotten the McAllister in merlot. And likely will sometime in the future

I never tire of seeing pictures of your shell shoes bucksfan. Please feel free to post up all the pictures you want. I do realize that it sometimes costs me dearly when you do, but it is well worth it IMO

Agreed.

What surprised me, however, is that although they are supposedly made on the same last (5-65) I had to size down 1/2 size on the Ridgeway / McTavish compared to my Strands...and they're still slightly longer than the Strands.

I noticed this with my Mctavish too. I've noticed other people saying the Mccallister is also a bit looser than other 5-last styles like the Strand and Park Ave. I wonder if it has something to do with the wingtip design?

I am still breaking my Cambridges in, but I thought the same thing - slightly more loose than my park aves and strands. They seem to fit me well in my normal size, just a little less snug. Not enough different to size down in my case.
