Discontinuing bourbon, only to begin shifting the entire walnut hue to a more medium brown, bourbon-lite color?...hmmm

+1 now that my strands are darker, I like them even more. No more orangeish color

I get this sentiment however I fell in love with my tan dublin pair so much so that I bought another pair just for a better fit...I dress casual so in spring, summer and fall when I sport a pair of light weight chinos they go pretty well.

I get it not being a sound look..but for some reason I really dig it.

Reason being, so they say, is that it is difficult for the black burnishing to come out even across both pairs. In fact, looking at my Bourbon Strands, I see their point.

Thank you for the feedback, Uncle. :)

@LA Guy

Can the existing MTO thread survive?

When it was new and the MTO program was tabula rasa...that was an incredible creative period that will not reoccur.  That was before I got here, but those posts and pictures served as my motivation to significantly expand my own personalized collection.  Even those posters here who can go / are going to other makers likely view that era of posts as formative in their current want list.

This (appreciation) thread is huge, has been all over the place, but that thread is much smaller and keenly focussed on the creative experience. It serves as a point of research for many newcomers...

Just curious if that one really needs to go/change?  I've seen no mention of this from LA Guy, but there was discussion about whether a new mto thread was necessary given unknown coming restrictive rules.

I have no plans to delete/merge the MTO thread. Megathreads are sorta a problem on Styleforum because they are really hard to get involved in for newer users, already. And they are hard to find things one without a pretty good working knowledge of search. So there would be no reason for me to merge the thread and make the information more difficult to find.

In fact, one of the practices of Styleforum, which has been used less recently just because the volume is hard for mods to deal with, is to pull off topic posts that occurred in the course of an organic conversation (because who ever stays on topic 100%_ out of threads to make into a new thread, so that people can talk about that subject, separately, if they so choose. We may start doing that a bit more once again.

.....

Great to hear.  I did not catch all of the conversation but am glad to hear that thread will live on.

Thank you for the follow up.

Re: McTavish, I am 8.5E PA, Strand, FA....go 8.5D? I wish there was somewhere close to try them on but alas there is not.

I have the cognac but always see the tan in pics and think man they look nice. I agree with others that the cognac can be dressed up or down to a wider degree.

Maybe that's why they killed the Bourbon.

Happy Saturday everyone! Enjoying some sun in blue cxl Kirkwoods. I went down from D to B width on these and the Maritimes, though I imagine most people fit tts/5-last.

I wear the same size in all of my 65-last shoes, including the McTavish.

Looking good! How is the length on this and the Maritimes?

So officially on pair #3, breaking them in today. Nordstroms has them labeled as Madison Park, but they look to me like the old players in walnut. 10.5Ds - absolutely love them. There is a little more play than I'd like but sizing down would make them too small.

Anyone know the easy way to find which last these were built on? Can't find them on the AE website anywhere.

I went with my best fit on the Strand.  You and I,are fairly close in size (8E in my case).  I know many have stated they feel their McT's are larger (and hence size down), but  I went TTS.  I will say the Dublin leather is a bit more pliable, so getting the V-Gap to close was easier on the McT.  Also, I could have gone with an 8.5D, but I preferred the shorter length, and would have had a slightly wider V-gap.
