What say you, Allen Edmonds community?

Sounds good to me.  @watchidiot you should start the thread with that family shot of your collection all in a circle, I drool every time I see it!

Just snagged a pair of mint Bradleys on eBay for $80.  Happy weekend to me!  My first split toes.

Current sale has options that fill out the color wheel, but I'd like views on what [other] single pair fits both a varietal and a weather-based need:

Dk Chili McGregor w/dainte

Dk Chili Lexington w/dainte

Black BB Strand

much appreciated, gents!

Dark Chili Dainite Lexington gets my vote. I'm in the SF Bay Area too and I bought mine pretty much for the same reason as you. I also wear my Varno 2.0, Dalton, Benton, Rush Street, Alden 9432S, and Alden 1272S on rainy days.

Cheers,

Fok.

Could we start several new threads to break it down? Several have suggested that we need separate threads on appreciation, last and fit, opinions on seconds, and quality issues. There's already a separate MTO thread.

Then people can subscribe to the ones that interest them.

Thank you @jcman, but those 3 are royalty here.  As a matter of fact, Pep sent me to Allison early on when I joined; come to think of it, I can blame him for pairs 35-70.

AYE!

I really don't think this is a good idea. Considering the MTO thread is pretty much dead (since AE isn't offering it anymore and their plans to offer it in the future sound quite simplistic and just include leather and sole changes without true customization), I would actually advocate for merging that thread into the general AE Appreciation Thread. Breaking up the thread into various categories makes it too fragmented, IMO.

In terms of thread starters, I vote for @peppercorn78 or @watchidiot, not me. I don't think I participate in this thread quite enough these days to warrant being the new thread starter.

I agree, there are too many posts with useful information that don't fit "cleanly" into a sub-category, which creates an obstacle both in knowing which thread to post in as well as which threads to follow. Useful info is what distinguishes this thread, IMO--it is incredibly informative to follow the range of topics covered here. It would be too easy to miss something helpful just because it happened to get posted in one thread vs another. Merging the MTO into this also makes sense, especially since whatever form the resurrected MTO program takes will be more restricted in scale and options. The recent shell quasi-MTO discussions fit in here quite well. Anyway, that's my vote.

I agree as well. Fok's idea of restarting it yearly would, I think, work fine. Too many AE threads would be too hard to follow IMO. J

In this regard, the shoebank currently has the Clark Street in black with a dainite sole for $117.

It's on the 108 last. While in brown or natural, its a casual shoe, the black on black looks formal enough to wear in a situtation like you're describing. Well, to me anyway.

I like the Lexington as well, but at $117, that's a hard pass, and I have all the black shoes I can ever wear.

I can see the point of a yearly dedicated Allen Edmonds umbrella thread - sorta what I'm inclined to do right now, for the reasons above.

Is there any one willing to make the first post and write a little FAQ to guide new members so that we don't get as much older member/new member comflicts?

Cheers,

Fok.

Thank you @jzrhwinnj, for making me feel better about my ~30 pairs of AEs.
