Honestly I like Alden too but I think these days they are amongst the worst value shoes you can buy. AE can be found at a fraction of the cost and C&J is now about the same price or even cheaper and they are nicer/better.

The shell Patriots you got are a great example, and not even an uncommon one. I just saw Carmina cognac shell boots in great condition sell for $366, if they were Alden cigar they easily sell for $600. Alden is a huge fashion brand at this point. To bad BC the shoes are nice but pricing too high

If you're talking about Alden calf, I agree. But Alden shell is pretty strong. Also, AE shell prices approximate Alden shell MSRP.

Any more details on this purported shoebank sale starting Feb 1?  Brooks Brothers models getting any extra deep discounts?  Shell?

Bourbon Calf Dainite, Park Avenue Black V-tread. This is my second order from Allen Edmonds ever; I'm addicted. First order were the walnut Strands and Bob's Chili Mcallister. Where do I go from here since there's a decent collection of colors now?

Nice haul. How do the Carlyle fit compared to the Strands?

When I got my bourbon kenilworths a while back they were firsts but similarly dark. Strangely when I used the bourbon polish on them they actually got lighter. Not sure what happened but between bourbon and black polishes (both ae wax) they've both lightened and developed a nice patina. Here are some pics for reference

That's true but I would never pay retail price for AE - they can be found for much cheaper too frequently. Meanwhile you need to get lucky to have the opportunity to purchase the cool Alden stuff at retail price.

My SA told me that shell will be "most probably" 20% off.

Let's say I had an underwhelming experience with a manager at an AE shop (of which there are a couple) in my hometown... where would be the most effective place to make this known?

If it's anywhere south of 4 bills, then I know someone who'll be getting a new pair of black shell Dundees.

@Testudo_Aubreii Bourbon is sometimes much darker when compared to walnut as has been discussed recently, and I think having a pair each with dainite and leather/v-tap warrants having both (if those walnut strands are in fact not dainite).

@thomps33 I agree with a LWB would be a nice addition. And I agree with someone else who suggested suede, though there aren't any darker options at the moment if you are looking for something more traditional BC. (I wish they would bring back a bitter chocolate FA or Strand soon.) It looks like you're going mostly BC, so maybe also consider something a little less typical like a flatiron, University, or vernon in tan while they're still available.

In my experience, much better. I had to go up a width from my brannock size in strands because the toebox was a bit too short and narrow. The 108 last (Carlyle) fits TTS for me - even though it looks long and narrow, it's actually wider in the toebox.

+1 on boots - Dalton is an obvious answer, or perhaps a suede chukka. Loafers certainly are a gap if that's your style (personally not for me). One thing I didn't see mentioned is monkstraps - a bit trendy perhaps, but I like mine more than expected.

Very nice! Looks like you've got your dress shoe rotation covered.

I'll second what others have said and suggest stepping down to something more casual in design (Longwing, chukka, boot, loafer) or leather choice (suede, grain, cordovan). Keep the color dark (but not black) to maintain versatility and you're golden!

. You can have those, I may get a second pair of the black PA shells. I can't decide if I want more shoes or go on a tie binge.

No AEs for me today in this snow. Just some L.L. Bean shearling lined bison leather 10" boots!
