Went with the Cornwallis.

No Leidens. I just can't do the long wings as I want the dark brown and more conservative. Though, that said, I think a walnut or chili pair with the weave would be an awesome pair. I'd probably have to talk with a southern accent when I wore them, though.

Wife is currently in the hospital for the next few weeks on bed rest (expecting our first child in a couple weeks), which gives me the opportunity to use my new AE Strand duffle bag as an overnight bag. Love this thing. Soft sturdy leather, easy to carry, nice capacity.

Haha, don't worry, priorities are in the right order/place.  Just wanted to snap a few photos of the bag as I was getting it out to put some clothes in it.

Thanks!

It's a shame the Thomastown offering wasn't in brown. I would of jumped on that.

Excellent Kennies, my man! Here are my pair:

Cold, windy NYC weather had me Shakin in my boots this morning!

For a Wintry Walnut Wednesday Walkin'' around town, I went with my Walnut Bleecker Streets—an oddity in my AE collection in that it's a size smaller than my usual, but equal width and SOMEHOW is one of my most comfortable pairs in the family. Yeah, a BCF find at $119.00 and I wish the Chili ones were in my size , but they're were two sizes too big.

I don't know if it's the little bit of extra shock absorption from the V-Tap rubber on the sole, but these are a pleasure to stroll in. smile.gif

Pep-style coffee shot on the subway platform, paired with my “chick-magnet” Thierry Mugler houndstooth wool overcoat. smile.gif

In today's edition of nice shoes on cheap carpet ....

The Rutledge is my favorite AE model (though black is admittedly less exciting than the other options) ...

Gents I need some insight, bit frustrated.  I ordered a pair of Macneil Shells before the Holidays and I received them today.  The Craftsmanship is embarrassing to me.  Spots where they started to sew the shell made a mistake and undid it, the wing is hanging on like a chad, and parts of the shell won't sit flat with the shoe.

Am I over reacting here?

Some pics. Again these are First Quals.

Unfortunately, this seems to be typical of Allen Edmonds these days. I had two pair of shell come in last year like this that they made for me in a non-stock size. They were my last pairs as I just feel like the quality of the product has plummeted while the prices are going up.

Really nice. I still see some pop up one the Shoebank from time to time.

Does anyone know if Chocolate is used on any other shoes? I could deffo see a Strand being awesome in that color.

Yes, the leather is as textured as it appears in the pictures. The sole, plus the "tough as nails" reputation of shark, indicate these shoes will last a very long time. They are definitely a statement shoe that I plan to wear with nice slacks and a sport coat. Discuss.

Ya know, I can't help but think they look like a couple of giant ... raisins! rotflmao.gif

Please do post when you decide what to wear them with. In the wild shots are better than these glamour shots with no feet in them.

Wow. I've been on a spending halt for over a year with no purchases. To help facilitate that I have been on the forum only a handful of times in the past year. After recently logging back on I hate to see AE putting this type of stuff out as first quality. I honestly have many shell 2nds that are MUCH MUCH higher quality than these. No question, I would send them back as well as email the CEO (Paul Grangaard) a picture and ask him what's up. Him and I have actually emailed back and forth several times over the last few years concerning issues I've had with Allen Edmonds. He's always been polite and very candid about quality control and policy issues.

I read somewhere that the acquisition of AE by the Brentwood Associates a couple of years ago could have something to do with the lowered product quality. Not sure how true that is though. I will say though that the quality of the leather bags appears to be leagues better than the quality of the shoes these days.
