Somehow, I totally agree with this critique, but personally I think white for the tassels.

Bridging the generations!

Have gotten lucky in my mixing of the new with the thrifted, but a mix I'm itching to break out should be a FUN one.

I got a perfect pair of Black Calf AE 'Shaker Heights' firsts from a local BCF (at the kinda dicey Bronx Terminal Market location) for $139.00 with the classic Grey & Black Herringbone “Harris Tweed” side panels.

And as it happens in my thrifting, I have a spectacular super-vintage Harris Tweed sport coat dating to around the early 1940's (My thrifting detectives hipped me to that via the Harris Tweed copyright notice in the jacket. Harris Tweed woven items rolled with that tag for a while before WW2 rationing and good wool got scarce—especially in the British Isles). I'm having that jacket refreshed (dry cleaned, a minor tear in the lining), but it is a perfect fit—fully canvassed, nice high armholes, great waist suppression, and...Made In America (Yay!)

It too has the classic Grey & Black Herringbone pattern...an exact match! (Insert evil super villain laugh here)

Yeah. Gonna go with something from seventy years ago mixed with something from NOW. What would Doc Brown and Marty McFly say? Could it lead to a tear in the temporal time-shroud, or will it just look kinda snazzy?

Can't wait to roll this combo out as soon as it decides to actually get a little bit cold here in NYC (Maybe with a Black Merino turtleneck and some Grey Wool & Cashmere Jeans I have)!

David Hockney is probably the ONLY person I can think of who could pull this look off—known for his bold color choices, not just on Canvas but in his wardrobe. Examples of his color palette in his pieces old and new:

And The Hock himself:

(Eight years of art school MAY have over sensitized me to things like this. LOL)

I'd hope Jack Nicholson wears something bigger than a 9D...

Looking for the group's input here. I bought some dark chili Daltons from the shoebank a month or two ago, and I have decided I just don't need them right now (beautiful as they are) and would like to return them. I haven't worn them, except a couple times around my house on carpet. I must have walked at least once or twice on my fake hardwood floor with them too. Below is a pic of the soles. Would that prevent me from returning them you think? I've itherwise been very careful with them.

I would email them first with pics to ask, but I think that would be fine. I've received pairs with more sole wear than that.

I wouldn't worry, like PC says. I've sent nack shoes with more wear than that too. There's no way to not have this happen as I have hardwood and ceramic floors and not too much carpet. If I only wore them on carpet at home I'd have to try them for half a year and then send them back wink.gif

Can someone give me some feedback on these? Never owned AE before. The leather looks to be in good conditions, but the bottoms seem to be beaten up badly. How long do you guys think they'll last?

I'd just buy seconds instead, or wait for a sale and do the same. I think the refurb starts at $125.

Significant sole wear. Looks like heels have been replaced at least one. Not sure about the condition of the uppers either.

Something like this is only worth purchasing if you plan to send them to AE (immediately) for reconditioning. And if going this route, I still thing there are way better options.

If seconds or seconds on sale is out of your budget, you might try the "thirds" ie no warranty inventory on eBay. Be sure to use the best offer feature.

Like the others said, I'd wait for something better to come along. Those soles do look pretty near shot to me. With that said, if you're currently wearing glued-together shoes and just want a quick fix while you wait for something better, at $30 or $35 that's probably an impulse buy and I'd take those over a $100 pair of Aldos or whatever any day of the week.
