First, the color is nice:

Those scratches show in real life, not just due to the flash. This finish seems more prone to it than the dark Chili or Walnut.

Now for the bad, you can see the throats bowed even without my feet in them:

And the heel is 3/8" shorter on one than the other!  The lack of a bevel will fool your eye, but note the base of the heel is forward of the brogueing on one, and aft on the other. Very disappointing lack of attention to detail. I realize they're $90 cheaper than comparable non-sale shoes, but this is just sloppy:

Any update on this? I received my pair of City's and I'm having the exact same issue as yourself (throats bowed out and uneven heel).

No, man. I sent them back last week, but haven't heard from them. The website doesn't show them arrived, though last time I sent something back they didn't process it for a few days after it arrived.

I hate to hear you had the same problem. Now I'm wondering if we bought a dud model, or ones made by the apprentice elves or something.

I'll post here when I get news.

Could someone educate me on shoe width?  And how that works in relation to the length of the shoe when sizing. For example, I wear 9d in the 7 last and was recommended to try 8.5e in the 5 last. Also, what if a particular shoe was too wide in a d, would you do the opposite and go up a length in c width?

Different lasts have different shapes - so the 7 last is relatively shorter and wider than the 5 last, which is why someone recommended you go to 8.5e in the longer, narrower 5 last.

Width will go up as the length increases - so for instance a 14d is wider than a 7d (in absolute terms). If a 9d in a given model was too wide, the first recommendation would be too simply try a 9c in that exact model / last. But all bets are off when you switch to a different last, as again you might be 8.5e in one last and 9d in another

Tell me about your pants, though. I definitely need something nicer to pair with Strands, and those look very interesting.

New Long Branches,

added to my collection of MacGregors, Daltons, Jeffersons and Strands (I love BROGUES). So comfortable. Zero break in time. Like walking on clouds. Also, I thought I wouldn't like the red laces (came packed with red and brown) but I couldn't have been more wrong.

I'm not finding any break in required. I feel like I could run a half marathon in them right now.

I wear my bourbon MacGregors with trousers and sports jackets all the time. I will even wear with a more casual suit, no tie, to mix things up when I'm in the office. So if you already have dark brown balmorals, go for. The price can't be beat. If you don't and need versatility I recommend dark brown strands.

Gobis today. (One of the rare models that I've dropped a 1/2 size down from my 65 last size.)

I measure 10.5 B on a Brannock and found that (after trying many variations) 10.5 B actually fits me best on the 5 last with closed lacing.

My foot is low volume with long toes though.

I've heard that from other people as well.  I had a little heel slippage and they were a bit tight at the widest part of my foot.  Wore them all day yesterday and they felt much better by the end of the day.  I don't think it'll take long.  Maybe because my foot is so wide?  10.5EEE

I am new to your thread, but wanted to mention that I was able to get a pair of new cappuccino shell Mcallisters at my Nordstrom rack store just three weeks ago, for $180 no less! I isually wear 9.5 D but these were 9 E and fit just fine anyways after I put a tongue pad in. I have also seen shell loafers in cappuccino in 9.5 D there but don't wear loafers. So if you have a Nordstrom rack keep checking as there must be others out there.

Appreciate that man, look forward to hearing an update. I'm thinking the same thing if we both have the same problem. I'm up in Canada so this will turn out to be a pricier problem than expected...risk of online shopping I guess.

An older pair of MacNeil she'll...lots of red undertones on this pair....not sure if these started out as brown or color 8 but the patina is ridiculous....decided weather permitting I would wear shoes one week a month instead of boots. Trying to fight a major shoe sell off.....lol

Coffee was still brewing so empty cup
