In an attempt to stop myself from spending 1K on shoes today, can someone answer a couple of shoe bank questions for me:

1) Is the shoe bank currently marked down for Black Friday/cyber Monday as well, or are they normal pricing?

2) When you see a particular shoe priced below similar shoes in the shoe bank (same shoe but different color or sole), does that reflect a more serious defect, discontinuation of that model? What gives rise to the additional price reduction? Thanks.

Many items, not all, on shoebank.com are marked down right now.

I have not found the price to relate to damage, and believe those variations are related to their inventory levels, likelihood of sale or something similar.

Just received a pair of brown Freiburgs from the Shoe Bank:

I snapped the pics immediately after a quick try-on so the pull-up effect is a little exaggerated. Color is much closer to oxblood than 'red' or 'cherry.' Not sure about the fit yet. I'm normally 8.5E and can also wear 9D. These are the latter and feel a little large. They would probably break in fine but I might have selected 8.5D if I was trying these on in a store with all sizes available.

For this pair, I've done nothing but brush. The shine you're seeing is from the factory finish. Of course, this is only the 5th outing.

New dark chili Madison Parks. I love them, and these poorly lit photos don't do them justice.

Thanks!  It should also be noted that these are in EEE width, so they will likely look even more sleek in a D or E width.

Honestly, I'm not sure which last they're on.

What they 'were' is different from what they 'are'...

They were purchased in Bourbon, but the finish was uneven. The leather below the laces on the left boot was particularly disappointing. So...I made some changes and they're now fantastic!

1) Currently produced models on sale are marked down. Some are not on sale and some are. Discontinued models are not "on sale" and will not change in price at the end of the sale.

2) Some models such as the Lexington and McGregor have moved to dainite soles rather than leather. This means that their leather versions are discontinued and the price reflected is not a sale price but a discontinued price.

Discontinued items are never "on sale" but drop in price over time if they aren't picked up. To see the difference choose current or discontinued models from the drop down menu on the left hand side.

There is no way to tell which shoe is better than another as far as defect goes. Prices are always the same from mode# to model#. A single color may be discontinued while other colors of the same shoe aren't. For example, the merlot PA can be found in some sizes, and it is discontinued with the current price of $187 compared to the normal PA price of $299 in black, walnut, brown, oxblood, chili, and bourbon.

It is always about what you are personally willing to deal with anyway when it comes to defects. Some people get really bent out of shape over misaligned eyelets while others don't. Some people can't stand tiger striping while others don't mind. Some send shoes back with color variation and others like myself alter the color anyway. When buying from the shoe bank, you always take a chance on losing $10 on the restocking fee. I've yet to return a pair myself, but I'm positive that I'm in the minority.

Thanks! It was a bit of work and I had no hope that the final color would be so nice. It was rather shocking when I was done. (-:
