Just a note of thanks to all that assured my I wasn't an idiot.  I couldn't help but feel the bargain price was clouding my judgement.  I'll post a shoefie when the weather gets better.

Well the REALLY awesome guy was the one who designed it and put the plans up for all to use for free.  I think he built if for one of those LEGO-mation movies on YouTube.

Anybody recognize this loafer?  I would really like to know if it's in CXL.  I'm jonesing for a CXL loafer that I can patina up.  This was at BCF and priced at $89. Also made in the DR. The only nat CXL models that I think AE ever did was the Clark and Rush streets.

Didn't we just talk about this the other day? I noticed the description and thought, "I wonder how many people are going to conflate dressy with formal here?"

That's funny. Though, it wouldn't be as far fetched as my five year old girl. I do know someone with a 10 year old wearing an 11E. It could happen sooner than you think.

Love the brown shell Strands! And it looks like we're the same size - so if you ever tire of them, I'd be happy to take them off your hands!

Don't know about the shell behavior but once you have those two pairs: is there a difference in fit calf vs shell? Some people have said that shell shoes tend to run slightly bigger than calf since it's thicker and harder stuff and so more difficult to last.

I'm trying to decide between calf and shell but afraid of not getting the optimal fit.

Looks like CXL to me. Looks very similar to the Kirkwood, which was/is CXL. The only differences appear to the sole (this is brown, kirkwood is white), and the color of the sticking. So I would imagine this is CXL.

@MJHoo I wore width E in calfskin and when I transitioned to shell, I had to go up to EEE on the same last and style because shell doesn't stretch. Calfskin stretched to provide a more snug/fitted fit. Getting the right size/fit is much more critical to having a comfortable pair of shoes in shell than in calfskin.

It's called the McKinley.

This site has a description and does not mention specifically CXL:  http://reviews.allenedmonds.com/7512-en_us/SF50438/mckinley-penny-loafers-reviews/reviews.htm

However, this does:

So does this:

You beat me to the punch.  I'll just add - when I saw the camp moc first show up in the retail store, I said, "hey, it's the McKinley again" because the sole looked and felt so similar, but they are made of different materials - CXL vs. something else, maybe chromepak (?).

I say it's a hit or miss. I have park ave in brown shell in 10.5D which seem to be a tad big, compared to calf; but the strand are pretty darn close to actually 10.5D.

McGregor's on clearance? Are we expecting McGregor 2.0 or are they moving away from the style entirely. I've always felt AE was trying to make this one of their core style offerings but always preferred a proper "gun boat" to the sleeker silhouette of the McGregor.

Would love to see fit pics however

What if you stained the beige stitching with dark polish?

I think it would look TONS better if that was done to match. The stitching reminds me of every time I pass by a mall brand shoe store

Not trying to offend anyone however
