Love the hearty Vibram lugged sole on this soft leather!

Gigi says hello, now 18 weeks old.

Glad you got them! They look great. Can't remember if I told you this or not, but those *should* be on the 511 last. That's what got confirmed at least. Either way, enjoy!

Yeah that looked too rounded to be the B34 but I thought it was the angle -

As others have mentioned, a few interesting new offerings. I doubt I will buy any of these but I'll still check out the sale prices.

Boone (1757 last) - What last is this?! I thought this was a decent looking casual shoe.

Sauk Drive (201)

Buckstrand (65) - Seemed weird that they would have this (late) fall shoe and have it unlined. I want this shoe for spring/summer but the sole would be a little much.

2. In the sizes that remain, Brooks Brothers is selling the Aberdeen for 179 minus any more promotions you may have.  That's a steal for one of the best shoes ever made in my opinion.  If they still have your size, I wouldn't hesitate.

3. People are probably aware by now, but thought I would mention they started the black Friday sale (1sts & 2nds).  Some weird choices, mainly limited runs only for the black Friday period.  Some notables I thought were - The City & Thomastown if you like the 201 last, the Rialto is now on clearance and is a steal if you can actually fit it, and the "Buckstrand" looks like it might be a winner.

1. Neo, I too was interested in the Sheltons as something different. Go look at eBay ads for them. What turned me off is that they don't seem to age well. Huge amount of creasing across the width of these shoes. While some may say these are character, I think that kind of character looks better on say a PTB or boots, but not on a bal like the Sheltons, IMHO.

2. Just like you said it would a few weeks ago (although you said closer to Xmas IIRC). I ultimately decided against these for being too rustic looking and there's a pair of Cognac McTavishes on their way to me from last week's Shoebank sale. Pizzes me off slightly that they're now on sale.

3. Got the email this AM too. The Boone is exactly the kind of suede PTB I was looking for this past summer. LOL why are they offering it now that I already bought the mcgregors?

I think I may check some out, too.

The email and website seem to imply many of these new ones are online only. Is that true? Are these not available to try on in the stores?

I use my fingers....not sure if that is suggested but I only use the stuff a few times a year...probably latex gloves would be the way to go...

and just spread it around? Leave it on, wipe it off? A lot, a little?

I use a little and rub it in very well...I am always a less is more person with product. That being said if you are using it on regular calf leather shoes/boots that you really are trying to waterproof then you will want to use several coats- it may darken the leather the more you apply.

In terms of the new models and styles - I really like them - some cool stuff...not a fan of the sole on many of them and I would think with some of these limited runs offering two sole choices would be cool...would love to see that Olive Leather in person. Also had I not just ordered a brown waxed flesh boot I would have bought the Rothsay in a second and have AE do a sole change or send it right our for  a sole change.

I like the look of the 1757 last sort of in between the B34 and 201....I think these wider toe lasts are really a way to go as more people transition out of strict business casual to casual.

The Frieburg is essentially the Oddenwald on a new last  - I like the look of it, though again wish AE would disclose more about the leather.

The Overlord on the 1757 would have been cool

The Tobywing while another incarnation of grained PTB is sweet in that it uses that sole we really like...with a fuller toe(at least in AE pictures) that is a pretty darn good looking casual shoe on the new last. Exposed eyelets is a great look...AE needs to do that more on their casual shoes.

Going to be tough to pass at that price

@watchidiotthat's unfortunate! I once walked through the gates of a parking lot and wasn't aware they had those metal spikes that will damage your tire if you reverse. I kicked it with my natty first ave and it got caught underneath. The leather got scraped up badly, and the welt and sole edge received some major damage. But I was glad I wasn't wearing flip flops, might have lost a toe. So, on the bright side, it was shell and not your flesh that was wounded. Nevertheless, it still hurts 😕

@kahunarusset brown is the same color as the wolverine Krause AE made in horween Dublin leather. They are tanned the same way as shell. I have two pairs of Krause and love the leather, how it feels and smell, and I especially love the russet brown color.

Thanks for the input - whoa those sheltons on ebay look bad don't they...when I started looking at picking up a pair in tan I initially figured I would get another McTavish, but after trying them on I was definitely against it.  I love the McTavish but they run so large for me that I have to wear them with really heavy socks or I sort of slosh around too much in them.  Bals & bluchers on the 511 fit me really well although I definitely prefer the 65 looks-wise.

Call the store and ask for a price difference on the McTavish - they should be able to give it to you in that short a time period.  If the McTavish fit you and you're happy with them I wouldn't care about the Aberdeen - the 222 has a unique fit that doesn't work for many people.  Ha..I did say I thought it would drop in price around now, but a little later in the year.  I was joking with someone about how I wasn't too bad at predicting the prices of stuff in advance - when I mentioned that I never paid more than $18 for a pair of new 7FAM jeans they didn't believe me - their loss.

Some of these offerings are definitely weird - the Boone right before the beginning of winter is a perfect example.  Damn good looking shoe though.  McGregor is timeless - can't go wrong with that one.  If I didn't have a player shoe that fit perfectly I'd be all over that one.

That Tobywing is pretty awesome.  I picked up a Brooks Brothers San Marco in brown not too long ago or I'd get these for sure.

I'm probably in the minority but it concerns me that they're putting more and more stuff on the 201 as well as making more roomier lasts.  I already find the 65 borderline too roomy.  Ben is bringing in the Overlord for me so I'll see how that works, but he was pretty definitive that I wouldn't be able to get a 201 blucher to work without dropping way down in size, and most start at 6.5E, not D.
