@shoelover pretty great collection...have you gotten most of these recently? My only word of caution is that your tastes may change....I started out strictly shoes and now I am all about boots and really have to carve out days to wear the shoes.

Heck of a collection....nice work

Brand new pair of never worn Daltons in lined walnut (or natural?) shell cordovan. Love them. Got 'em off eBay, and the box is marked as an SMU. Maybe from the trunk show? They look much closer to walnut calf in color than walnut shell, which makes me think they might just be natural?

Either way, they were a steal.

Just got a flyer today about an upcoming Shoebank sale starting 11/17 through 12/24.

@AdamAdam those are some great looking specs. I think AE ought to offer non-golf versions of the Heritage rather than bringing back the Broadstreet. Or both😎

Love my Dalton Boots but I don't know if they look good with these chinos. They're slim fit. Do u guys think they look alright or that I should exchange the chinos for some straight fit ones? Thanks!

I have all 3 Morgan colors, but I'm kind of addicted to wingtips (over 30 pairs of AE wingtips at last count) and the brown pair was more to "complete the collection" than me actually liking it. The navy was first, because I needed a blue shoe (this was well before picking up my J. Fitzpatrick navy suede Greenwoods, J. Fitzpatrick Medinas, and before my navy almost-Jingle-Bell-Mok). The wine was second but soon after, because even though I have Merlot McAllisters and Burgundy shell MacNeils, the V-Tread sole would be nicer in the rain. And the brown was on some sort of deep discount because I hadn't yet acquired my brown shell Jeffersons (but again, the V-Tread is nice in inclement weather).

The Navy is neat because it has brown undertones, so it definitely wears differently than my Medinas (which have a black welt). The Wine is practically interchangeable with Merlot, though I wouldn't wear it to an interview. The Brown actually sucks. The color is weird, it doesn't seem to go well with anything. It's has both darker and lighter brown areas, but it's not pretty like bourbon. I threw some orange laces in to wear with navy slacks on a Sunday last year at some relatives' house watching a Bears game, but it really didn't work.

A lot of people dislike the look, and that's fine. A lot just poo-poo the corrected grain, although I have very little confidence that I'd personally be able to tell a significant difference in leather quality in a blind study.

On the other hand, the Bolts (balmoral boot version) are where I draw the line into "these look bad." The fact that there's more open space to see the variations/striations in color that makes them look a lot more awkward. With the shoes, the full brogue pattern is kind of like a mask of sorts, but it's not quite enough to hide on the boots.

Got a pair of AE Portland boots on ebay.
Worn only a handful of times.
Seconds from the Shoebank, but most people would never notice the flaw.

Great looking Portlands! I think they were seriously underrated here, but that was before the current SF fetishes for chiseled lasts and heavy mocc stitch everything...

Normandys are in.  Glad they updated the b34 to size 15, but I prefer the 511 last.  Definite keepers, they fit best with the laces very tight.

Love the hearty Vibram lugged sole on this soft leather!

As someone who cant wear slim fit - i prefer boots with a bit more leg opening...or roll up the chinos all the way and let that Dalton goodness shine through

Length has been an issue in all previous downsize attempts with AE.  I have 2 'tolerated' examples in 14e/eee but none I'd call a clear success.

Would like this boot in a 14.5 but these will do.  Seems I got a very light distress effort which I am happy about.

Had an interesting conversation with my wife, and then later a co-worker, on what is considered dressier or more casual.

Can you guys please order these 4 shoes from casual to dressy, at least in terms of what you could get away with?

1) Brown grain First Ave (with dainite sole)

2) Tan McTavish

3) Bob's Chili Bleecker Street

4) Merlot Franciscan

My wife felt that the McT's and Franciscans were the dressiest, because they were the fanciest and had broguing; Bleeckers were the most casual becuase they were plain.
