TBH, I'm not sure if the Dainite Carmina uses is the same as the Dainite UK one.  It doesn't say Dainite on the bottom. My calf leather AEs have the "basic" leather sole. These feel a little bit softer than the JRs. However, the softest leather sole that I've had from AE has been that oil infused one. It came on my Neumoks (which I have since sold).

So, here's my ranking (hardest to softest):
1. JRedenbach
1. Dainite (a tie)
2. AE "basic" leather sole; paired with the all rubber heel
3. Oil infused soles; not sure of name

This is a limited sample size, I admit. But looking for any tips suggestions. Thanks.
The Italian collection soles are like rice paper, but I don't know if they can do them on a Goodyear-welted shoe.

Just a simple statement showing my appreciation for the general direction AE is headed, and for being willing to try new things...Ive seen others make the same exact statement here, and they werent verbally accosted for it by this blaster guy...why he has targeted me is beyond my comprehension.. But something about my show of appreciation here (IN THE AE APPRECIATION THREAD), seemed to have sent this guy over the edge. Moreover, why anyone would take time out of their day to disrupt the thread with their petty disagreement with MY opinion is beyond me. Not sure why he can't be happy wearing and appreciating whatever he likes, and let others wear and appreciate what they like.

So true! You were just minding your business when suddenly you accidentally ripped someone for their reading comprehension. You are totally innocent, it's just those "troublemakers among us!" You are so full of shit.

How dark is the new AE burgundy cordovan vs Alden's color 8?

I have to say the pics in the latest paper catalog are not terrible. Now if only they could transfer those to online...

I saw that Paul posted some info on the special cordovan MTO program, and made another announcement on TOF. Perhaps he'll be checking in here soon.

Neither, but they aren't in production anymore. They were one of the first of the "rough collection" and are made with waxed leather like the McTavish.

I ordered a pair of Yorktown in brown shell, with the Orville Redenbacher soles,  and was pleasantly surprised at the the price.

Interesting proposition. What color shell do they have - burgundy, brown and black?

Had a 201 last question - this is probably the one last I have no idea what to expect. In general, high arch dominates the fit for me. The 65 last is far from my favorite - with a bal, I can pretty much do a 7D, 7.5C or 8B with varying amounts of break in. They fit snug across the top but comfortable. With bluchers, I have generally gone with 7D and the fit is "correct", but definitely roomy, I must use medium weight socks and once broken in I always get a tiny bit of slipping in the heel, just enough to make it annoying. I loved both the black hills & Aberdeen, but I wear the Aberdeen constantly and the black hills mainly collects dust because of this.

Anyway, where would people suggest starting with the rogue? 7D, 7B, or 6.5D? 6.5 would be a full size down from tts. I was also looking at the overlord but for a bal I thought 7D was a safe bet. Thanks so much -

I don't understand why he didn't post something here too. Did somebody do something to upset him?

The rogue is a weird fit for me. I think I could have dialed in the fit a little better, but I really wanted the shoe. I ended up going down a half in length and up in width (9D to 8.5E), but mainly as volume "control" and fear of major creasing. Just curious, did you end up buying Gobis? Suede? Those are one of the only other models that I dropped down a half in length. That said, I think for you 7D, then 6.5D would be the place to start.

Really appreciate the info - thx a lot.  I'll probably try the 6.5D first... In general dropping too far in length makes me a little concerned.  In the past I purchased more than enough (non-AE) shoes where I was just shy of touching the front and I always would leave the store feeling like they would work, but in the end they never did.  But it sounds like the 201 last plus the open-lacing might make these run really large, considering I already find the 65 bals in 7D plenty roomy in the toe box.

I did end up getting the Gobis - went with 7D (where TTS would be 7.5C).  They are very comfortable with medium or heavy weight socks.  Could I have gone with 7B?  Probably.  6.5?  I doubt it.  The Gobi in 7D are what I would consider the limit to how large I could take anything.  Definitely off topic but if you're looking for a casual boot, I am still blown away by the fit of the Normandy.  They are almost as large up front as the Gobi but having the mini-lug style heel makes the heel fit much narrower and really "locks" you into place.  The fit is better than almost anything I've ever tried.
