Flat laces are matter of style. But I am letting you know that 2.5mm for ROUNDED ones are about the thickest you want to do.

I actually have all 2, 2.5, 3mm ones. 3mm makes my bals look like athletic shoes. 2mm is the one AE sends you with their bals. 2.5mm is the one that is aftermarket AE laces (ones with the color). Neumok laces are 2.5mm, as an example as well.

Be careful with some Ebay listings. I bought a whole bunch that were listed as 2.5mm, but ended up being 3mm when I received them.

I own a pair of the Santa Moks that I received from my fiancee of all people. We go to enough holiday parties each winter that it makes sense. If there's room in the budget and most of the basics have been covered, I say go for it. Being festive is never a bad thing - no reason you can't have fun with comfortable pair of shoes!

Thanks for the tip.  These are for my Gobis, so should be okay.  AE has enough lacing options for my oxfords, but only one 24" option in alabaster tan.

That's interesting, I was disappointed that the Strands I ordered didn't have as much of the yellow (that gives the orange) in them as the pair I tried on at the store.

Speaking of LEC, I actually just got these Stewarts in the mail last night. Ordered them new from eBay. They were a BCF purchase from the NY area...definitely wish BCFs in my parts of CA had selections more than a size 14EEE Hale and Tan Grain McTavishes.

I'm going to be "that guy." If they are not seconds then send them back. If they are seconds it is no big deal. I buy seconds sometimes and unless the shoe is the wrong size or painful I accept whatever the mistake tends to be. Which so far, I have only ever  had to take back one pair of seconds because they hurt my feet. I  normally buy either firsts or MTO. When I do I expect first quality. When we, the customers, accept  a lowering of the standard of quality required of firsts we hurt ourselves and the brand we love.

Brown Jeffersons! Or the new pebbled grain Mac Neil.

They made a shoe called the Shautel that was gorgeous! If you can find one on Ebay then buy it. It was a snuff colored shoe and is  one of my favorites.

Long Branch for a dreary Wednesday.

I have a pair of these and I wear them about 3 - 4 times each holiday season.  I get compliments every time I wear them, and it's nice to switch up the laces from time to time.  I have the peppermint laces and the green/red laces and they both look great.

I recommend them, but just remember that you can only wear them a few times per year.

Good to know...yeah i kinda figured that was the case and couldn't see wearing them any more times than that. However, I was able to find these on the AE shoe bank for $147.00. Seemed like a pretty good deal. Only problem is that i have not tried on many AE shoes (especially any shoe built upon the 65 last). I have tried on the First Ave boot in a 9D and it was too big. I am usually an 8.5D in most dress shoes but seeing this shoe is ideal for people with high arches it may not make sense for me to purchase as i have a low arch / almost flat foot.

I am a lawyer and go to court /depositions once or twice a week and otherwise wear slacks and blazers or suits to the office, with slim fitting dark jeans and sweaters or OCBDs on the weekends. I have:
Black Jefferson wingtips for dark suits as well as black pants and grey sports jackets.
Dark brown Strands w/ Dainite soles.
Dark Chili daltons.
Bourbon macgregors.

I wouldn't go with anything in walnut. I also don't want to spend on black cap toed bals at this point (will get fifth Aves eventually).
So I pose to you all: what major holes do I need to fill?

Based on the above, in addition to a black cap toe you already know you need, you have no loafer, no burgundy/merlot, and no shell. You can kill three birds with one stone. I'd start looking there.

For whatever it's worth, I have flat feet and the 65 last fits me just fine.

No work today, so no footwear necessary today. However, I did give my Kenilworth some TLC...

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

At some point, I may get brave and start adding some black polish to the toes and heels to get a bit of burnished appearance. I am slowly losing my fear of playing with the shoe's appearance. Of course this means I will likely screw up a pair and this will justify a new purchase.
