I haven't had any issues with my AE shoes.
I've been very impressed by the design, fit, and finish.
My only disappointment is the loss of the MTO program. It was something that I was looking forward to trying one of these days.

I need versatility between khakis, wool trousers, cords, nice dark denim. Thanks for your opinion.

I'd choose the one that fits best.  On me, for instance, the McGregors don't fit well whereas the MacNeils are perfect.  If both fit well, then get a McGregor if you want a leather insole or a MacNeil if you want a Poron insole.  Also, the McGregors come in a couple of colors -- burnished brown and oxblood -- which are not offered for the MacNeils.  The MacNeils are available in a brown grain leather for a more casual look, which is not offered for the McGregors.

AE should be embarrassed trying to pass that off as First quality.

Finally cooled off so I wore the new Dundee 2.0's for the first time today. Very comfortable - I think I'm going to like these.

What's the worst experience anybody here has had with Allen Edmonds Factory Seconds? Are they actually worth buying? I live an hour and a half way from the shoe bank in Port Washington, WI and I want to go check it out. If I like a pair, then I might think of buying it. Only if it's worth it though. I have 4 pairs of 1st quality AE shoes, but this would be my first pair of factory seconds. Thanks!

The 555 and 800 have "enough" room but I wouldn't consider them wide. 2592 is all over the map. The 606 & 2042 are roomy but the super tight heel fit drives most people away. The 444 was actually pretty wide but everything on it is pretty crappy. The 79 is in the middle for width, its not narrow but isn't super wide either. Never tried the 201 or 1943.

12 EEE here. I find the 333 is slightly narrower in the toe box than the 65. In particular right where the end of my little toe is (I think due to the shape of the shoe). I have a pair of Fort Collins than are plain toes and wouldn't get anything with a cap on that last because I doubt the shoe would give enough to be comfortable. I don't have any problem with cap toe shoes on the 65 but the toe shape is more rounded and spacious. Relatively speaking.

I have purchased about 5 pairs of AE's from the Shoe Bank. I have not had any real issues - a little wrinkle here and there, some stitching not quite perfect, etc. On a couple of the shoes purchased from the Shoe Bank I have not been able to spot any flaws. Probably the biggest issue I had was with my Long Branch boots - one of the boots has the eyelets not quite lining up perfect. Much less noticeable when laced up and can't see it under my jeans when I'm wearing them so no big deal to me. I have never returned anything I bought from the Shoe Bank.

I don't know if my experience is representative of all Shoe Bank purchases or if I am just lucky. But that has been my experience.

Thanks for the quick response. I think I might go check it out. Also, do Allen Edmonds seconds come with their original box like the 1st quality shoe boxes or is it a different box jst because they're from the shoe bank?

I've picked up probably four pair of factory second shoes, all had minor defects or blemishes that would be absolutely unnoticeable to anybody but me. I suppose the "worst experience" was a strand messenger bag I picked up for $149 - it arrived without the brass "loop" and hammer pin on one side that connects the strap, making the bag completely unusable. Rather than send it back, the missing brass pin was a $5 part at home depot and I spent an hour fixing it. For the trouble, AE refunded fifty dollars and I was completely satisfied.

I had a similar experience to about 8 pairs or so then ran into a bad stretch were 4 had to go back due to huge lumps in the footbed(all that vibram gumlite sole) then got back on a good streak.

Same box as buying first quality in store, but no shoe bags in my experience. Also they don't throw in the free shoe horns like they do at my retail store - not that it really matters to me.

Out of 9 pair of AE, 3 are firsts, 6 are seconds. Of the 6 seconds, I could find no defect on 3. I consider them a steal for what I paid. Of the other 3, 1 had a minor toe cap alignment issue the is hardly noticeable, 1 has some striping in the leather that continues to blend in more as I use leather lotion and wear them, 1 is less than standard quality leather for what is normal for AE standards. I still kept these and feel like they were a good value for what I paid.

I always admired that design. I wish they would bring it back! Perhaps a Bradley 2.0?
