Still a good read, and you'll see Alden is on this first page.  Interestingly if you read the comments at the bottom a few people ask why no AE.  The author did respond with the following comment, "Dear Michel, thanks for your kind words. Concerning Allen Edmonds, we think this leading and serious company should work more on new styles, take into consideration new comers that are shaking the market (Cobbler Union, Scarpe di Bianco) and stop resting on its laurels. Innovation and new design efforts are clearly lacking at AE in our opinion. Men’s shoes market is very exciting these last years and AE designs appear to remain the same. Concerning Nettleton, we’ll have a look. Cheers, HUGO."

They even put J Fitzpatrick on there who has been making shoes for like two years and I don't think cost much more than AE.  Seems inconsistent and a snub to say the least.

The author provided his rationale, and it makes sense, even if one might disagree.

I think someone asked about these AE, made for Wolverine, 1000 Mile "744LTD" shell boots. For the $500 range I think they are a nice boot. Only 1,000 were made and it is a nice shade of brown shell.

I would prefer a slightly sleeker last/toe but Wolverine isn't exactly a 'sleek' boot maker. Also would have liked a dainite sole versus leather, but that can be done if ever resoled.

Sizing update on my Franciscans... Based upon feedback here, I initially attempted to drop down a 1/2 size from my 5-last sizing. This resulted in crushed toes, and plans to have them stretched. The old pair were bought on a whim, mainly in attempt to figure out my sizing on the 333, but were cheaper ('no warranty' due to tongue pads being added and shoes returned, otherwise look like 1st quality).

Decided I liked the model enough to order 2nds in my 5-last size. The fit is better, and I'll deal with slight cap creasing if it develops.

So, the old ones are going on the selling block. Anyone an 8.5 and want a steal on burnished chili pair?

And I am the opposite..I would sell  my Shell Bayfields and get the Wolverine if I could. Love my Bayfields but prefer the clunkier Wolverine. Yours look great!

The wolverine has room in the toe for a reason. You'll need it for all the hiking, climbing, hunting you'll be doing in it. I'm super jelly. Id resole to full Vibram lug sole (like old school Long Branches) if it were me.

What was the name of that wolverine lookalike boot that AE came out with two years ago? It was too close to the 1000 mile and they had to change it...

That's it. A few cats lucked out and were able to MTO in brown shell and various CXLs before the program shut down.

I think @NAMOR can attest to this.  And I agree, I might consider an antiqued edge sole on dainite or commando down the road.

Gentlemen,

I am afraid that my post from last evening may have gone unnoticed, so I apologize for the repost.

Those of you that have seen the Dalton in dark chili and the MacNeil 2.0 in dark chili in person, would you say the colors are the same/similar? I do know that the color codes are different.

Thank you in advance

For what its worth, they're made using the same leather. Any differences are going to be between specific pairs seeing as they are hand finished colors.

After getting sized as 10.75 on the Brannock device... My best size for the 5 Last is really 9.5 EEE.

10.75 vs. 9.5. (More like a 9.25 if available). The sizing challenge continues on...
