new burgundy shell Kenwood next to 4 year old brown shell Kenwood, my #1 worn shoe. (in need of a polish!)

I second the recommendation of the McGregor in brown; dark chili would also be about the right level of formality. The Fifth Avenue, which is one of my personal favorites, is dressier, but not so dressy as to be out of place in a business casual setting.

I recently started upgrading my shoe rotation. My current rotation consists of the merlot McAllisters, Walnut Strands, and Bourbon Randolphs (along with some others I am trying to replace). I am considering taking advantage of the RDA sale and picking up another pair. I need something that works well with my business casual (mixture of cotton and wool trousers with button downs-sans tie) wardrobe. Any suggestions? I am thinking a blucher like the McGregor in brown or perhaps the Mora 2.0 in brown (not on sale) might be good. Should I be looking at a different style or color?

I have the bleecker in Dark Chili Its one of my favorites and one of the best AE models outthere.

I'd be interested in any comparisons anyone can offer on their Fifth Avenues vs. Park Avenues and Strands. My Strands feel so much better than my PAs, and I've assume a FA would fit the same as one or the other, but I'm wondering which.

TIA!

Thanks for the suggestions.  Just out of curiosity, what was it about the McGregor that didn't work for you?

So far I have:

  • black FA
  • chili PA
  • Walnut PA
  • chili University
  • Walnut Strand
  • Brown Presidio

And I'm planning on getting a pair of FS boots in brown after Christmas. (and I still think it's strange they aren't in the fall catalogue line up)

I wear mostly odd coat and trousers with a tie.

I'm thinking about a monk strap in chili or oxblood, or another brogue in dark brown or oxblood.

My Franciscans are my most comfortable shoes, and I had a lineup not that unlike yours when I got them.

Are there any shell cordovan models in the RDA sale?

Apologies if this was already asked.

No, not first-quality shell. Shell seconds are $399 at the shoebank (down from $499).

The forefoot was too wide, so my feet were swimming around.  I suppose I could have ordered them in a narrower width, but I was afraid they would be too narrow on the rest of my foot and decided to go with a brown McAllister instead -- also a beautiful shoe, if slightly more formal.

The McAllister is also on the 65 last, but it's a balmoral so the fit is different.

Shame. I'd love a $25 Strand Messenger bag. shog[1].gif

$147 for 2nds was as low as those got not to long ago. Still amazing at that price though.

You're telling me there were recently Strand messenger bags seconds on sale for $147?

Bought my first two pairs of AE shoes at Nordstroms today.  Looking for some pointers on care.  I got Fifth Avenues in Black and Strands in Dark Chili Burnished.  For the latter, do I just get brown shoe polish?  Is the AE branded polish better than the Kiwi stuff you get at shoe stores?  Are the AE shoe trees any good?  Any helpful tips?  Thanks.

For some reason, they don't seem to have hit on a long-term design like they have with their Park Avenues, Fifth Avenues, Grayson's, MacNeils, etc.

Hypothetically speaking, let's say you like the Dundee 2.0, but have already bought a few new pairs shoes this year and aren't certain they're worth the extra investment. What are the odds they're available for $200 at this time next fall?

The Dundee "1.0" was around for awhile and just updated to the 2.0 so I wouldn't assume a Dundee "3.0" or anything is coming around any time soon. Dundee was quite the forum favorite, too I believe.

After a long day my Rush Street are still looking great. Don't get me wrong I love the Strandmok but they should have never discontinued these.

Finally pulled the trigger on my first real pair of dress shoes. Went in to get fitted and found out the shop was honoring AE's online sale - beating Zappo's. I was almost 100% on the McAllister in walnut but the Park Aves in merlot made my decision easy. Going for a job interview in real estate soon - so a slightly more conservative shoe seemed to fit the bill.
