I am curious now, why don't you make it clear where the uppers at produced? If they use paper or cardboard heel or leather stacked etc.

I would like you to prove me and other posters wrong for clarification.

Let's leave the poor guy alone.  He's been a good source of information, but it's important to remember he is not an official AE spokesperson.  I for one enjoy his input, but I also wouldn't want him to possibly put his job in jeopardy by trying to operate in an official capacity.

Taking a break from regularly scheduled quarterly programming on why we should buy AE when carmina are so much better....

Back in the studio, and quite distressed about it.

Hear Hear...the gentleman CLEARLY stated that it is not his job to act as spokesperson - I for one took it to mean just that, not "I don't wanna answer this", and thus far in my time here have no reason to believe he's insincere.

PC stop being so distressed - you're going gray over this!

Thanks in advance!
Buddy, very bad timing for that kind of questions....

If you are buying full retail, go to a store and pick a pair that you like. If seconds, sorry, but that's just how they are.

Also, I don't plan on purchasing too many AE shoes in the future, but I stopped by the new Bellevue, WA AE store and tried on the Dundee 2.0 in olive/loden suede. Fantastic looking shoe and the suede feels to be of higher quality than my Malverns. The insole/footbed is apparently still cork but definitely felt like there was some added cushion in there. It's probably one of the few shoes (and the grain MacNeil) that I'm really interested in. They are having a 15% grand opening sale at the location, but they wouldn't stack it with my $50 off coupon. If I could stack that and my Amex promo, would have walked out with them.

I am buying full retail, however i don't really have the time to go to store and look at and try on a bunch of pairs.  Instead I have been buying online from a few different retailers and I'm having trouble finding a pair that seems to have everything I'm looking for in a Park Ave, namely a properly proportioned cap, a cap line that is straight, and properly finished welt stitching.  I have heard that AE has taken a dive in QC in recent times, but can it be this bad?

The cap proportion is just the design, however, you should definitely get a straight cap. The welt stitching, depends on what you're talking about. A lot of people notice the end of the welt and think that that's a defect, but it would be within spec for AE, and frankly most other manufacturers. Photos would be helpful, but there's also a ton of photos and discussion on this thread already about what's acceptable and what's not. The answer ends up being...depends on what YOUR standards are.

PSA, I'm going to be posting a pair of unlined Walnut shell Daltons in size 8.5D in the B&S later this week.  Just wanted to give you fine gents a heads up if someone wants to call dibs on them, just shoot me a message.

The cork is still there by necessity, but the benefits are lost. See discussion and my post from about 4 days ago.

Gonna order some Dalton's as my next Allen Edmond purchase. Does anyone know if they run true to size?? I wear a true to size 9 in the Allen Edmond Strand. Thanx.

So much better than those stupid Alden Clown show wings everytime I see those Alden wings I am waiting for the small car and 40 clowns to come popping out...

Just teasing of course enjoy your new boots and these will make some one very happy - wish they were my size as I would have taken them off your hands.

I would suggest a 9.5 or 10 in the Dalton...I take a 12eee in the strand. 2 of my three Daltons are 13E and one is 12eee. Personally if they made a 12.5 E it would probably be perfect for me. The 12eee Dalton fits really well though my toe is a smidge closer to the front than I typically like but being boots they are forgiving

LOL come on now! I like my Daltons just fine, but *I* keep expecting my foot to start talking to me in the Dan Akyroyd cone head voice whenever I look down at mine.

It's funny how polarizing the Alden WTBoot vs Dalton debate is. There are so few who live both. It's either one or the other.
