Not sure that you need to do anything BEFORE wearing them, but AE prescribes their Leather Lotion to care for the McTavishes.

Hey fellas, another QC related question... Wore my Maritimes last night when I got off work. Few hours later when I went to take them off, the leather overlay (half, maybe closer to 2/3 piece of leather) of the insole came unglued - in both pairs.

This is unacceptable for a pair of shoes (firsts) that are less than 2 months old, no? Even for the AE line?

And for those mentioning the odd humps in the footbed - I had to return a few pairs of maritimes before finding ones without these.

Nice collection and pics, @peppercorn78! I've been meaning to take some new photos of the collection. Might be a good activity for an upcoming work at home day.

Wore them for 12 hrs today, medium weight socks, 3 mi if walking in 91 deg weather. My heels were completely destroyed. I was in total agony and couldn't wait to get these off. Is the breakin this rough normally?

Generally I don't walk that much in new shoes that too the ones with double leather sole..My macneils took some some time to break in, but they became comfortable after 3-4 wearings...

On travelling days like monday and thursday, I have to walk a lot through the airport and never had any issues with macneils...

So weird for me to see Ibanda (tuba) and Eddie (saxophone) there with him. I went to Juilliard with those guys.

If toe cap creasing does not bother you the First Ave is pretty sharp - The Dundee 2 is probably more casual and depending on where you live may have longer wearing seasons than the full boot

Oh and on an embarrassing note I just realized my Oddenwalds were a size 12 which is on the B34 last - I brannok a 13E which is what I wear on most 511 lasts

For some reason I feel I have said I was wearing a 13D in this boot - sorry if I did that to anyone :)

Why would the toe cap crease?

Toe caps can crease if you have short toes.  I know from experience.

The first Ave boot has an incredible long toe cap and it is unstructured for most of it- I do not believe anyone can wear these boots without toe cap creasing...I could live with it and would probably pre-crease it with a straight line rather than some of the really crooked creasing that some pics have showed
