Same here, though I started tts first before exchanging.

More Gobi questions - so if I'm already down a half size for the 65, the general sentiment is I would need to go down another half size from that? Seems like a big length drop...

@makewayhomer - Other than 26 AEs (plus two more on the way), with everything else I have I'm into triple digits. But I absolutely have plenty of holes.😃

Not sure here. I'm a 9D in almost everything. That size gobi swallowed my low instep. Was just way too much volume. At the suggestion of Earl at Leeds, I tried the 8.5. Was worried about the length but the suede helps give just enough for me.

I have to check my Gobi's when I get home - I swear they are a 13D...my measured size is 13E and the 13D fit perfect. I could not imagine sizing down from 65 last for them...again that is assuming I have 13D(pretty sure it is what I have)

Got my Northland Camp Mocs - much like the kirkwood and maritime - I am trully impressed with the leather and construction - The Olive Chromepack is way to green to be called olive and the Navy is a touch too dark IMHO.

That being said I would have kept a pair if they fit - the 13D was too much heel slippage sockless and too much bowing around the ankle and the 12D while snug but workable the arch support that they built in(which I hate) is too far forward on my foot. bottom line is that this 555 last and the patterns are just not ideal for my foot.

With Rancourt and the ability to pick up some old handsewn USA Sebago's I think I will just part ways with AE on the boat shoe/camp moc front. I tried 8  pairs so far and none have worked for me :(

heh, I believe it. some folks have holes despite owning 200 shoes, others have no holes in their 4 shoe collection.

I wouldn't go down from your 65 last size. IIRC you and I are both "small footed folk" around 7.5-8. I wear a 7.5 EE/EEE in the 65 last and the 7.5 Gobi seemed short for me. I'm an 8E in the 511 last and when I tried an 8D in the Gobi (they didn't have 8E or 8EEE available) the length was great, but the waist of the shoe was too narrow (8E probably wouldn't been just right for me).

I totally agree with what you're saying about the Gobi swallowing a low instep. I've got the same issue. In real life, I probably fit right in between an 11.5 D and E. Some AE shoes with a wider toe box allow for 11.5 D, but I move up to the 12 D for the 65 last. It's a little bit big, but the 11.5 D is a touch too narrow and the 11.5 E a touch too wide in 65.

With that being said, I went with the tan saddle Gobi in 11.5 D. Width wise is fine, but it does feel like there's still a little room in the length and I definitely don't fill the volume of the shoe in normal dress socks. With thicker dress socks or wool socks, it's much better. But, I still debate on pulling the trigger on an 11 D, just to see. However, I think the OP mentioned he was looking at suede Gobis, and I'm not sure I'd want to wear suede out in winter (which is why I went tan saddle). If I was looking at the suede Gobi for spring-through-fall wear, I'd definitely want to drop down to the 11 D and wear normal dress socks and let the suede stretch a bit. YMMV

TLDR: I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that you'd need to drop down a full size (as opposed to a half-size) from the 65 to get a proper fit in a suede Gobi.

Got to see the Independence Collection Strand today!
It's got another name but I can't recall it.

This is why we shouldn't be referencing our size in certain lasts. We should be referencing our Brannock size, a standard, especially when some people take the 65 last in Brannock or down half a size and up a width from Brannock.

Doesn't sounds like a good deal....

eh, not sure I agree. Brannock is 2 dimensional only while some lasts (or certainly shoes) take into account at least 3 dimensions (or the 3rd dimension at different points)

I just know this from being misfit on ski boots for years and years until somebody finally figured out that I my foot was thicker than normal at a couple points

Some really good feedback on the Gobi - I think I have a reasonable idea where to start at least. I'm down a half size from brannock in all lasts so I wasn't sure how low to go. Sometimes 6.5Es are even to big.
