Any opinions regarding darkening a Wilbert I purchased in light brown CXL?

Thx.

Rocked my chili Kingsley's today with a glen plaid suit. These shoes get more compliments than my newer ones. I keep telling myself everything gets better with age 😉

One of the stranger (and certainly uglier) old AE models I've seen on eBay:

Yep, sharkskin with lug soles.

Unusual, but I would wear them.

Opinions on how to do it or whether you should do it?

If the latter, you mean the "golden brown CXL?"  I think it is maybe AE's best color for casual shoes like the Wilbert.  My Long Branches are in GB-CXL and I think they look great.  If it were me, I'd leave them alone.  Search this thread - or look for Post #376 - for bl@ster's MTO in a Macneil in GB-CXL.  Pure sex.

But if you meant "how" to darked CXL, I'm sorry that I can't help.

Yikes.  Not real sharkskin, is it?  That would be a waste of good fish.

Is it really Walnut Wednesday already?

The now discontinued walnut grain Macneil. I think mine are slowly morphing into the BBxAE chili grain Macneil.

Still, they are lighter than the gray flannels and therefore I've broken a rule. Forgive me.

Quality control issue on my new Mcgregors:

I've already been in touch with AE about repair or replacement.  Susan was very nice and quickly sent me a pre-paid UPS label.

Gorgeous shoe.  How were you able to keep them dry if all the women at work went off like an uncapped fire hydrant upon seeing them and YOU wearing them??

dead center cap toe medallions for the Strand is impossible... even for firsts...

they always end up skewing toward the inside a little don't they.  speaking from my own experience, although im pretty confident no one would notice the skew except for me.  you'd really have to stare and be looking straight at my shoes for the sole purpose of focusing on trying to find slightly off-centered medallions, for a good few minutes to even think about it

can anyone tell?

Speaking of walnut Strands - now that I have a pair in natural shell, I find my walnut calf Strands to be superfluous.  Size 12 EEE, worn twice (maybe three times).  If anyone is interested, shoot me a PM before I list them.  Also have a pair of black shell Leeds in 12 EEE that are damn near mint.

The Mcgregor is a nice looking shoe, but it suffers (I think) from the lack of piping on the edges.  Instead, I should have opted for a pair of Burnished Brown Macneils before they were discontinued.  Oh well.
