Allen Edmonds Appreciation Thread - reviews, pictures, sizing, etc... - Page 4182

After someone posted about the 20% offer, decided (against my better judgment) to swing by my local store. A different SA was there - he sort of gave me this lengthy lecture on how it was foolish to ever expect to get a clearance style in my size, that for 6.5 & 7 I should be happy if they had the size at all, etc. Then he said the sale was online only, things could be brought in but I would need to come back to ser the SM. Finally, when I inquired about the green Kirkwood, he said that's a great shoe, but it's not for you.

Awesome. So let's try to turn a negative into a positive - on the inventory screen (not the online bs), I clearly saw two pairs of 1st Q Smokey gray mctavish, one 7.5D, another in a larger size, for 117.00 minus the 20% on top of that. Happy Friday.

I'm asking because I am 8D brannock and I opted for 8E for mcallister for my pink toe comfort, but the heel is not as grippy and tight.

It is mad comfy though.

I am maybe an 8.15-8.25D on the Brannock and have 5 last shoes in both 8D and 8.5D. Both fit me well though the 8D has to be in thin dress socks. The 5 last feels like it was tailor made for my foot shape, nice amount of toe room and hugs my narrow heel great. The new 201 last the Rogue is on is even better for my foot, more room in the toes and still hugs the heel great, I tried it on in an 8D and it was perfect fit. Really makes me want to get the First Ave boot but I know the toe cap creasing will bug me.

Did you by any chance try anything on either the 333 or 73?  For the longest time I sort of ignored the 333 since I thought they would be way too long in length for me but I was totally wrong - I think anything I put on, Larchmont, University, etc. had no heel issues or instep issues whatsoever.  I wore my Larchmonts out of the box for like 3+ hours of non-stop walking the day after I got them.  Similar experience with the Walton.  Just a suggestion - like you said, the Rogue is supposed to address this type of issue so it's no wonder they are going to put out more styles on the 201 last.

Yes, I talked to Ben. Easy going guy and really nice. I told him I wasn't necessarily looking to buy that day (I had JUST bought another pair at the 4th of July blowout sale) but he didn't mind helping and even recommended that I wait until some models come out. Super helpful, and he's the one who gave me tongue pads to try when I was too loose in the heel.

Funny, I live in San Diego and complain about the 120 mile round trip through traffic to the nearest store, but I stopped in to a store in Maine.

Anyway, I recall trying one 333 last, but the shoes weren't a color I'd like. They did fit better than 5 last, that's for sure. They're a bit long, but I could get used to them and I do like the chisel toe for style.  I tried nothing 73 last.

Looking at the new cornwallis, it might have a higher cone, though that might be partly an optical illusion. But it does look like AE is coming out with alternatives as, even though I can go up a half size or wider and fit into some Park Aves with the tongue pads, it would really be awesome to have a choice in a balmoral that ACTUALLY fits me.

I was the same way with my Rogues as you with the Larchmonts. Wore them the first day and went for a walk to break them in. Was so comfortable I walked the whole seawall, which is just short of a mile. They're more comfortable a fit than a 5 last and even my LAX by far, though the LAX do have those super cushy soles you can stand on all day.

Photos of the Cornwallis, Yorktown, Lake Forest, Normandy, Overlord, and First Avenue are now up on the AE website.  I like the looks of the first two a lot.

The Cornwallis = the best looking AE shoe right now, in my opinion

I need some shoe trees badly. With the recent acquisitions, my collection grew to over 20 pairs. Need a sale from JAB.

Is it necessary to have a shoe tree for each pair? I have ten pairs and three trees I rotate.

I'm sure that's fine, just seems like a lot of effort

Unless you feel like you need them right away, I'd wait a little on this.  During Christmas (I think) last year I feel like I saw them for 7.50 - 8.50 almost every other week.

I think JAB is done offering their shoe trees under $10. I haven't seen them on sale under 12.50 this year. I'm guessing Men's Warehouse merger has something to do with it.

Does the scarf work with the coat?

Then I was thinking brown gloves to compliment the charcoal coat.  I'll be wearing brown shoes (walnut, merlot, burgundy) more often than my 1 black AE shoe.  I don't really want to get black AND brown gloves just for the sake of my 1 black PA.
