My 12.5 Strand replacements are being made now since they aren't stocked in that size.  Hopefully they do a better job this go round.

I just received a pair of merlot McAllisters from the Shoebank... if I have this issue on those I'm out of luck correct?  OR I'd have to pay to recraft/fix?

thanks everyone

I've had this happen to one pair of firsts and one pair of seconds on separate (ha) occasions and had them sent back for new heels (at the SA's request). The heels have held up well, including some dancing in the pair of seconds.

They'll take care of you.

I've had that heel separation issue on about half of AE's. I even had one total heel separation mid-stride (McTavish).  I was pretty upset as these were all firsts, however AE DID take care of me, they went above and beyond.

Moving forward, I keep a close eye on them, and when I see about 3/4'' split I drop them off at my local cobbler and he makes short work of then for an affordable price. It's an added expense, but I consider it a cost of doing business. I would rather take care of it myself than ship them back and wait for the fix then the return trip. I also have him put sole protectors on all my leather soles.

Not sure if this makes any difference but I'm a size 15, so I can only assume I have a longer lever to torque that pressure point.

Good luck! AE will make it right, but if you need a more efficient fix seek a local cobbler.

Why is it very common with heel separation in AE?

I have also noticed with my independence pair heel separation.

I wonder does the heel fully separate or you guys notice the crack?

Also, since we are talking about heels. What type of heels does AE use leather or leather board?

Because they're glued and not nailed or pegged.

Fairly certain they're leather board. But don't quote me.

Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The Sheridan belt is the best color and finish match for burgundy shell, AND it's on clearance for $69 I think.

Thank you for posting these pictures, have been very interested and curious.

Any idea what last these are on?  The B34 only offers up to size 14.  Hope they are on either 201/511

I'd like a pair in brown, with a toby lug added if possible.  Did not like the black version much.

In an MTO/GMTO world, several unlined options would appeal...I'd like a pair in olive suede + some odd Dublin.

I thought that my chili Bradleys looked good -- until I saw yours. Those look amazing!

If you haven't used Saphir it is probably the best polish out there. That's debatable but this being a deal isn't.

Good looking out bro!

As for Bradleys, I dig mine:

assuming it's $15 per jar and another $1.50 for shipping. Typically you can buy saphir products for $18 to $20 in NY. doesn't seem to be saving much, unless i'm off with the pricing.

Rogue in Bob's chili today.

I've got a pair of rogues in the same color coming on Thursday. Glad to see someone else likes them.

Tell me about the fit compared to something standard like the 5 last. Do they seem pretty true to size for you? They're on their own last (Rogue and Warwick) though it's supposed to be a complement to the 5 last. The website says fuller forefoot and  higher cone for people with a high instep, which describes me to a tee.

I gambled and got my size instead of going wider. I had to go from a D to an E on my road warriors because of my instep, though those are on the orthopedic/golf-shoe last so they're not so representative of most AEs.

I found them to be very roomy. So much so, I went down a half size from my 65. As a comparison, I stayed the same size for the road warriors. From your description, I think you'll be OK going TTS.
