Allen Edmonds Appreciation Thread - reviews, pictures, sizing, etc... - Page 411

I just grabbed a pair of merlot Lombards off ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/120926868787?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I didn't even know they came in merlot. I didn't have any luck getting the walnut ones during the 2 for $200 and have been looking for them ever since. This will be the first pair of Allen Edmonds shoes on the dressy side that have a rubber sole, so they will come in handy on rainy days.

Good pick up. I have the Lombard in Walnut and Burgundy - they are great for wet days. I really liked the Executive Collection - I have the Lombard, Sutter, and Parliament. I don't know why they discontinued them.

Here's some info I posted on the shoecare thread:

So is the burgundy different than the merlot color? From the pictures, it looks the same. The only burgundy color have seen before is on shell Cordovan.

I think they use the terms interchangably. If you look on their website and pick all shoes in "burgundy", you get burgundy and merlot. With their premium polish, they only have merlot, but I'm guessing it is meant for merlot and burgundy.

Today was one of those "perfect timing" days. At lunch, I stopped by my local men's clothing / shoe store and the Allen Edmonds sales rep was there with all the new Spring 2012 shoes and some of the new shoes coming in Fall 2012.
Here's a brief summary of my thoughts on a few of the new styles:
Neumok - this shoe looks great, and I really like this shoe in the blue. I might have to get the blue for this summer.
Amok - a bit too unstructured for me - disclaimer, I'm not a big desert boot fan
Harbour - looks very nice in person - really liked the tan
Flatiron - I'm still on the fence on this new 333 last. Couldn't try it on as they didn't have my size, so cannot comment on the fit.
Stewart - looks much better in person than on the website - great looking shoe
Finch - looks great in person - I really like the tan/navy. I didn't really warm up to the brown/red
Jermyn - much better looking in person than on the website. The walnut is beautiful and the brown is not far behind
For Fall of 2012 - I will not give a lot of details as these are not for public consumption and I don't know if they are 100% slated for production, but here are some details on what I saw for the new Fall 2012 shoes:
A new wingtip boot that is on my "must have" list. Not as tall as the Bayfield, but taller than the Cascade.
A casual blucher that looks similar to the MacNeil - very nice
Some new McTavish colors - one of which is on my "must have" list
Some new leather colors/textures/finishes that are great looking. This is in both the dress classics and the more casual collections.
A definite expansion within the Rough Collection - styles, colors, textures, etc. They look very good.

When I talked with a customer service rep. a couple weeks ago she indicated that AE has its look book finalized for its Fall and Winter collection but they won't know for sure what is going into production for another couple of months.  She indicated that there should be at least one new boots offering in the Winter collection.  I'm looking forward to seeing the new casual blutcher style.

Here are my brown MacNeils today. I fell out of love with these a while back because they looked too frumpy with my business casual clothes. I found out hat they make a great casual shoe with the exaggerated brougeing and double sole

Ah... what I'm really waiting for is something in suede. Maybe a chocolate captoe like the fifth ave (which they apparently used to produce, according to someone a few hundred posts back) or some snuff tassel loafer with a more pointed toe. I greet every new AE season with great anticipation! bounce2.gif

Why would people pay $145+ when they could get new first quality for $200 with the up coming sale? Good luck anyway.

It is the seller's decision what price he sets. No need to question the rationale of the price.

for those of you with chili ae's, do you guys use the same horsehair

brush for other brown, walnut, burgundy ae's or a different one?

I use one for light and one for dark colour shoes. I use the light one for my Chili AE.

However, I seriously think that one horsehair brush is OK for all colours in terms of bluffing.

Looking at getting my first pair of AE's from allaboutshoes. Looking at the Fifth Avenue for an all around dressy shoe. For sizing, is the AE fit guide (print-out) the most accurate? I just don't want to make a mistake. I am a 9.5 in Cole Haan's though.

Allaboutshoes should correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think he does returns/exchanges.  If that is the case, I would find a way to make sure you are correct about your size before ordering from him.
