The tradeoff with Factory 2nds is you never know what the imperfection will be.  AE also charges a $10 restocking fee for all returned 2nds, which is perfectly fair considering if you do return them to get a different pair they will have paid to ship shoes to you 3 times

The scuff was moderately deep, so I decided to replace them. I ended up taking the shoes down to my local AE store (not outlet). I returned them and actually decided to size down, and I didn't have to pay the restocking fee. I then went and called into the outlet store in Alabama, talked to a pretty nice gentleman there who inspected a pair for me and said that the pair he was eyeing had no major defects [I think he said something about uneven staining on a side somewhere?], and they'll be shipped tomorrow... I can update when I get the new pair, but fingers are crossed for a nice pair.

After over a month decided to wear my Jermyns yesterday - suffering the consequences now. So happy I passed on the Westchester.

swung by the store to see ads for the upcoming styles - first ave, barlett, lake forest (not the old gumlite pos), more loafers on the 555 - some good stuff coming.

There are a few more differences; The LaSalle has more stitching embellishment around the shoe and a pronounced apron making the shoe appear more casual and "bulky" than the Del Rey. Conversely, the Del Rey has less stitching embellishment and a streamlined apron, that gives the shoe a more sleek look. Keep in mind, as you already noticed, the differences are subtle, very subtle.

Looks like they've added factory 2nds tent sale to the main AE site. However, stock pull seems to be inconsistent with what you get from Shoebank.com

Hmmm. Maybe they're not selling quickly enough.

I would have thought this thread would help them emensely. It got like 450 out of me this go around when I didn't really need anything other than the 50 dollar belt.

(That's a lie I needed new boots because my wolverine 1000 miles went through the ringer the last 3 years I need to look into having then resoled and conditioned because they're a mess but I love them)

That would be Earl in Alabama, a great guy! Which Atlanta store, Park Place (my fave) or Buckhead?

From their FAQ here - http://content.allenedmonds.com/pdf/Factory-Second_Sale_QA.pdf

Q : CAN I RETURN A FACTORY 2ND?

A : Yes. For this sale, Factory 2nd returns will be treated similarly to normal 1st quality returns. You can return them and receive your money back or exchange the value you paid for another Factory 2nd pair (assuming we have the style, color and size in stock) or use the value towards a 1st quality purchase.

Suggests that the $10 restocking fee will be waived for a few days?

WHY IS THIS NOW AVAILABLE?

A : Our inventory of Factory 2nds in a number of styles has grown to a size where we can offer them to customers and fulfill most requests. Had we tried this even a year ago we may have upset customers by not having enough inventory available.

Funny.. so lot more shoes are failing now in QC and customers will be upset if only few were to fail.

+1

Makes you wonder what changed in their operations that is causing this.  It's not like their tolerance for "1st Quality" gotten tighter.

Unfortunately, I wonder if this is damaging their "brand" at all, with the open sales for 2nd quality and presence in Burlington Coat Factory (not exactly Bloomingdale's), it just seems like the "quality" of the AE brand is lowering.

Don't get me wrong, I still love the AE shoes I own, but makes you wonder where the direction of this company is going

It seems like 2nds are becoming more and more important to the AE line up. As has been discussed previously on this thread, it might be AE's "entry level" line...

Yup, Earl was his name, super nice man. And I went to Park Place - that's the one right by Perimeter, right?
