Use the natural dressing for shoes with a natural sole, which is the type of sole most of AE walnut shoes have (for example, the walnut Strand). In my use of the natural dressing, it appears to be neutral in color. By the way, I highly recommend the smaller of the two sizes for the dressing. They are more expensive per ounce, but much easier to apply.

Nice collection. Where did you get grey neumok?

Found them on ebay new. I bought from a seller I have gotten to know who turns over tons and tons of AE's. Sometimes he gets stuff from AE that hasn't come out yet. I had not seen this color before, and I really liked the grey on black so I picked them up.

That's a great find...a unique pair, Google can't find it! Any chance you could share the seller?  It looks like a pair that should have come out for this spring/summer, but AE doesn't seem to like grey (no grey on AE website), which is too bad since they've got green, blue, red, what's wrong with grey...

Ya its dabondo1. He does his listings in batches. I got my macneils in shell from him too brand new for less than $200. You just have to make sure you catch his stuff when he lists it, because he lists his "best stuff" first like PA's, Stands, Mcallisters and shell models.

Very nice! Wearing my mocha Drydens today. I really like them in walnut, too.

I bought the larger bottle and it does seem tough to apply. I'm thinking about getting a cheap paint brush to apply it to my shoes. I'm having a tough time getting it out of the bottle.

Right, I find that to get it out of the bigger bottle, I almost have to stand on it with it on its side -- and then it really comes out.

I will inquire to see if this is a custom option.

I did my best to give AE the benefit of the doubt: influenced by the hype on the menswear forums I've purchased 7 pairs of different models (but all within the classic styles) over the last 4 years.

Well, the data is in, and the conclusion is out: I'm giving up: the AE shoes suck, and are not worth it, even on sale.angry.gifsmack.gifffffuuuu.gif

What is the problem that you discovered after seven pairs of AEs?

You're wrong.

Expensive, but feasible.  I think you're better off deciding which shoes you'd rather have in shell and just start getting those instead of their calf counterparts when it's time to buy.  I have 4 pair of calf shoes at this point - a pair of Chromexcel Bayfields, a pair of black Grayson tassels (which I will eventually replace with a shell version), black PAs (which I plan to eventually replace with a shell version) and walnut grain Macneils.  The Bayfields and Macneils get bad weather duty, because they hold up to it so well.

I was just pointing out to my wife last night how much better shell ages than calf, even on black shoes.  (I need to do this occasionally to reinforce what a good decision it is to get more shell cordovan shoes when the time comes).  nod[1].gif

Your a dangerous, but good influence on me and did it once again bucksfan. I've been going back and forth on the black shell PA's and had pretty much decided I was going to get them in black calf instead. I've read mixed reviews over the last couple of months about black shell. Sounds like in your experience shell is the way to go even in black so I just sent off for a quote on a pair. Thanks for your input. I only have 2 pair of black shoes and think if my black Leeds were shell instead of calf I would wear them a lot more than I currently do, your response made me realize that.

If I could start all over again I would most certainly purchase shell in every case where the option exists. It is worth it to me on several fronts, including when it warms up like it is now and you open the closet door in the morning and that wonderful smell greets you. I can't imagine a closet full of them!

Hm. I think I'm liking the Leeds in shell (though it's a blucher) or this Alden over the PA. I just can't past the PA's captoe. But hard to go wrong with any of them.
