Scoober - are you f-Ing kidding about being disappointed? You should pick up those Norwich and wear them for a whole day - would serve you right.

I considered this based on some reviews that I read, but there is no 12 1/2 B. (They do have them in 12B.). Now I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that this works.

If 12.5B is your normal size then it may work for you after all. Congrats on the pickup.

Called back to order the cordovan at the low price and was still denied by a different SA.  It's like it is their personal shoe and they refuse to sell it at a loss.

I used light brown polish (saphir) on my walnut strands and they came out fine, no orange.

Unless you use neutral polish, any polish will darken it. Which is what I prefer anyways

Brown is much, much better.  Keeps the main walnut color intact, but gives some depth/interest around the pinking and brogueing.

My normal size on the 65 last is 13B, and that's what I ordered with the Gobi (809 last).
Fingers crossed!

HA!

Yeah, I know.  But I only have the cash for one pair of shoes right now, and I have my heart set on the chili McGregors.  I know I can't really complain, they are on sale, just kinda stinks to buy those at a decent price when I see so many other shoes going for a steal.  Although this is my first foray in the arena of good shoes, so I really could use many of the others that are at a great price, I may not have the funds to buy anything else for a while.  I'll probably be disappointed if I get anything other than the McGregors.

Would I size differently on the Larchmont?  I'd be tempted to get it instead, but they don't have chili in my size.

Is the Norwich that bad?  I have read about the cramped toe box, but figured I could size up in length since I am close to the edge of a 10D anyhow.

I picked up some Patriots in brown and burgundy too!!  Almost got the brown during the last sale. Glad I didn't.

I started in my 5 last but ended up moving down 1/2 in length. Mine are suede and I wanted to account for the extra stretch. If yours our calf, then you might be alright.

Hopefully this works out as well.

I'm really liking this one. Went with my 65 size and it fits great.

That is an insane deal. Anybody even remotely thinking about these should snag a pair! When I first found out about AE, the Jefferson was one of my fitting shoes. It is gorgeous in walnut, but I picked something else that day. Ended up getting a pair of Cambridges from last year's tent sale about a month later (my first shell) but compared it long and hard to the Jefferson.

You know, I may pick one up myself. When I found out about the Amex credits, I had spotted a brown shell in my size but while I was rounding up two gift cards, it was sold the day before I called!! censored.gif

I had to replace the whole AC at home last week, so it'll be hard to go shoe shopping (you don't wanna know how many pair of shell that cost crazy.gif) but my logic is -- I already paid for those gift cards, the money's spent anyway. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

@Cold Iron still catching up on this thread -- prayers for your son's recovery. I bet you can't wait to turn him into a filthy AE barnweasel like the rest of us! happy.gif

I tried those and hated them myself - but then again I'm not a fan of the bourbon color in general.  The black tassels on top of the bourbon just worsened it in my mind.  There are many other good choices for not much more - I would look elsewhere unless you're hell bent on another grayson.

Swing by the state street store and say hi to my friends...JSO, don't laugh.

If you have you're heart set on the McGregor, you'll have your heart broken if you don't snap up the Jeffersons - they are better in every way (and cheaper now too).

I tried the Larchmont - damn nice shoe, but I just didn't think I'd have much use for it.  Same size as my 65 & 222 worked for me.

The Norwich was a killer for most people - it actually wasn't that bad for me, but it is super narrow plus the mctavish sole on top of that made it feel really stiff.  If you have no experience at all with the 222, I would only go for this one if you have a bad high arch but also generally take a C or B width.

if you really take a 9, I'd say screw the patriot - they have hyde streets & st. Thomas available - they're both better.
