If it were me, I'd do the dark chili over bourbon with a medium gray suit. I have both and I love the bourbon, but find the dark chili much more versatile. Just my opinion.

I think these new loafers look fantastic. Would love to see them in person.

Sorry. Missed the part about not caring for reddish. I have the Bourbon Strand, and it will definitely work, but I just prefer the dark chili.

Walnut seems too light and Brown Burnished seems to dark. Personally I don't like the chili/ redish shoe. I'm looking for a medium brown. Anyone have the bourbon in the Strand or Fith Ave?? The bourbon looks good but hard to tell online if it will be too light or not? Any help is appreciated or pictures! Thanks!

These aren't Strands. Carlyle in bourbon with the toe darkened a bit. Not the best lighting on this pic.

Burgundy, Black, Walnut, Brown, and Cappuccino (Truffle) Shell
Unspoilered on purpose. Amazing collection. When I think of Dundees, your collection always comes to mind. Similar to when shell strands are mentioned then I think of Mike.

I hope the treatment of your son Is going well.

That's actually why I don't think they'll get rid of them. They seem to pride themselves on offering extended sizes, especially since so few other manufacturers do.

So I've only recently decided to upgrade my wardrobe and start purchasing quality items.
The only decent pair of shoes I have are Black RM Williams Chelsea Boot which I bought not long ago.
Work is sending me to LA for a week (I'm from Australia) and I am wanting to take advantage of this by buying some shoes (or anything you recommend) while I'm there. I think I've settled on Allen Edmonds, as they have a store in LA.
Basically, I want to get everything I can while I'm there.... What do you guys recommend?
I was thinking a pair of black dressy shoes to wear with a suit, some brown brogues, monk straps I don't know, new to this!
Happy to spend up to 2000, and about three pairs of shoes, to cover and situation basically.
Any suggestions would be amazing as to what you guys would get in my situation.

What will you wear these with mostly?

suits or biz casual?

Assuming you're mostly wearing suits to work, you could get a lot of mileage with:

Park Ave or Rutledge (a little sexier) in black
Strand in dark brown burnished
Mora in bourbon (there's your monk strap)

Then for your biz casual to casual do-anything (other than suits) shoe:

Either MacNeil longwing or Patriot loafer in burgundy shell cordovan

Boom.

Business casual most of the time, but I finish my business degree soon so I would assume also something with a suit. I sort of want to cover my wardrobe entirely for any situation as the shoes here in Aus are super expensive and not the best quality.

I really like the look of the sea islands as well, but noticed on ae's webpage in the questions section they say they aren't recraftable. So for that money, I'm going to pass.

Since you'll be able to go into a store, it might be better to try on different lasts. You may find that one last is significantly better than others. That may affect your choices a bit.

^This is by far the best thing you can do. Make sure you find the right lasts and sizes for your feet as it will make a dramatic difference in your comfort and happiness with your purchases.

While Allen Edmonds has a lot of options to choose from, you may also wish to take a look at things from other makers like Carmina, who represent a similar value proposition. Best of luck.

I am considering the AE Dundee shell chukka. My first foray into AE's so can someone advise how the size is compared to UK where I am generally a UK 10.5 normal width and 10 wide (Loake Capital 026), 44 Vass P2. Do AEs generally run 1 size length smaller than UK so I would be an 11 E ?
