Took care of one of my favorite pairs today - my Allen Edmonds Walnut Shell Daltons. These are one of my more heavily worn pairs, so I felt they needed some TLC. They also have a few fairly large and prominent dry patches and areas of roughness, so I felt like they needed some nourishment. They also have a few small dark blue marks that bled from my UNIQLO selvedge raw denim jeans.

They look like they've never been worn!

I just sent my pair in to get stretched and hoping I made the right decision vs selling...

Well, considering they're likely never going to be available again (especially in the unlined + walnut shell combo), I'd say it's a risky but good decision.

Yeah... I'm nervous, but maybe I'll have some sweet *and* wearable boots. Crossing fingers!

In other news: maiden voyage of my Kenwoods! Now I can stop talking about them wink.gif. Of course, I also managed to step in gum already...

What's the recommended sizing for the Gobi for people with wide feet? I know it's a more generous last, and I'm seeing that people in general size down. But for wide feet (in AE I've always been a 10.5 E), given that Gobi doesn't come in standard wide fittings (less than 3E), would a 10.5 D be considered a sizing down from E, or would I be wise to go all the way down to a 10 D?

I have seen the bowing before and read several different explanations. Frankly, none of them made much sense to me. I ordered a pair of Benton's from the shoebank and had some bowing as well. This was certainly not normal as my other pair of store purchased Bentons did not do it. The staff at the shoebank store I obtained them were immediately helpful and I sent them back for a second pair. The replacement pair arrived and I did not have the same issue. Although you posted months ago, I hope you did return them straight away and obtained a replacement.

FWIW, I might be irregular, but I wear a 10.5 3E in the 5 last and wear the same for the Gobi. I find the width spot-on without sizing down and the toe box is even a bit short. If my pair wasn't in suede I might have had to size up!

If I were you, given they don't make the Gobi in 10.5 E, I'd try a 10.5 D and if that is too narrow, a 10 3E. It's also possible this boot doesn't work for you. If so, you can consider another maker, or going with the Dundee (as an SMU if you'd like suede). Finally, ordering SMUs on different lasts is generally not allowed, but sometimes happens... the Gobi isn't so different from the Dundee that they might (but probably won't) allow making it on the 511 last for an extra fee.

With some free time at hand and taking cue from a prior post by @Indyoshi68, I decided to change the sole edge color of my 2 year old bourbon moras  from black to brown. I think I'm fine with the way it  turned out but when it will be time for the resoling, I'll let AE do it the right way!!

Love the color those edges turned out, I think they look great. I have been having a hard time sanding down my Patriots, seems to take so long to get down where the leather is clean.

What did you use for the edge color?

I sanded the edge of my soles in just a few minutes using a Black & Decker Mouse sander. (I have steady hands.)

I'd go with a 10.5D.

Yeah I need to stop doing mine by hand haha, might need to borrow a sander from a friend for this project.

I wear an 8.5e in the 65 (and fits me perfectly, very tiny gap in balmorals) and an 8.5d in the leather Gobi. If anything, the Gobi is a touch roomy. The Gobis are my favorite AE and get the most use though. I find them to be very versatile.
