I was wishing to try on a variety of lasts to really dial my size in across all available lasts. Would this be frowned upon if I have no intention of buying a pair that day? I will likely buy a shoe horn or something as a thank you for the fitting, but 1) I would most likely want to wait for a retail/Shoebank sale, and 2) I will have no room in my luggage for a shoe box.

Just don't want to offend the salesmen, but I really would like to take advantage of getting fitted by a "professional" across all of their lasts.

If you really have an intention to buy eventually, it may nice to buy a gift ard from the SA after he spends a long time fitting you.

Alternatively, if you come across something you love, but it in the store and have them ship it to you.

They won't get much of a commission from a shoehorn wink.gif

Anyway, I've worn them twice already, but the right shoe seems to be getting some wrinkles on the outside of the upper. Is this normal?

Welcome! You're the same size as me and Rostov. That's good to know! We 10.5 3Es need to look out for each other.

it is his job to make you a customer, not your job to become his. If, over the course of fitting you on several lasts, he doesn't convince you to do business with him, you shouldn't feel bad at all. That said, if an SA proactively took that amount of time with me it would be a very profitable investment for them.

with the recent mention of the strand, I thought it was fitting to wear my strands for Walnut Wednesday smile.gif

BTW, these were definitely my gateway drug to my dress shoe/boot obsession... these and the walnut dalton were my grails... then I got introduced to shell & Alden then it was all over for me. Still love these strands (despite the creases below the caps) and they're one of my few remaining calf options satisfied.gif

looking great!  Strands are one of the best designs from AE. I only have the suede version (liked it so much that I bought two pairs, haha)

I try to buy *something*, even laces or shoe care, if I go into an AE shop unless I'm there for some other reason, such as dropping off a pair for recraft or returns.

However, I wonder how gift cards work for AE. Does the SA selling the gift card get the commission or the SA selling the shoes? Sometimes buying a gift-card is a very uninvolved transaction whereas the SA ultimately selling the shoes may do much more work. (At times I imagine this is reversed)

Agreed!  It's my favorite AE design & I added the brown shell strand recently to validate my love for it.  Luckily for the brown shell strand, it creases RIGHT at the cap toe, so no creases have developed :thumbs-up:

I was literally about to ask the same thing as rostov about the gift cards. If anyone has more info, really interested. Thanks

A moment of silence for a fallen brother.

But seriously, any tips here?

Whoah. HOW did that happen?

I think you might have to go for a recraft.

Edit: oh haha, I see now from indoors that it's gum. With the glare from outdoor sun on my iPhone screen, it looked like huge chunk was taken out of the welt and sole edge.

Is that just gum? Ice water and a rag?
