I finally made it out yesterday to Burlington yesterday. The models mentioned here were there, but also saw these that were not in my size, the Geary's. Shortwings!  These were 11.5, I think.  I did an internet search and couldn't come up with the last on these.  I'd be interested if anyone could proxy for me at 9 or 9.5 (last depending).  Thanks.

A bit of Googling uncovered that the Geary was on the 2-222 Last, so very similar to the Players, I suppose.

Am I being too picky about my shoes?  I sent back these Fifth Avenue's back in Jan/Feb because the heel was splitting.  They repaired them for free, but then yesterday I noticed the inside of the sole is splitting.  I spoke to the lady who helped last time and she immediately sent me a UPS label and said they will take care of it.  Is this normal, or am I being too picky about my shoes?  I don't walk that much, just to the car, to the office from the garage, etc...The first photo shows the recent split, the second photo shows the heel before it was sent it for repair in January/February.

On the first picture a few of mine do something similar, though there isn't a gap. But you can tell its shifted as there is a lighter natural "line" along the seem that isn't dyed. On my BB Macneils theres actually a lip and feels as though the sole shifted from the midsole. Granted those were 2nds but I've had some firsts do it to.

Actually my Bayfields are doing a bit of it now. 2nd wear.

Thanks.  These were seconds also.  I do have to say that the customer service has been great!

Local Burlington Coat Factory had... a couple pairs of Fryes and some bicycle-toed J&Ms. Not an AE to be seen in any size. #FAIL!

These Bayfields are 1sts from the GMTO. Honestly, with how bad things could go at recrafting. I'll just stick with it and put some more edge dressing on it.

I just returned from my local BCF... not a single AE anywhere. Did grab some super cheap sperry's to use as lake shoes.

Dark Chili McGregor today. My most comfortable pair of AE shoes, by far. Besides the slightly crooked wingtip on the left shoe (which doesn't really bother me), they're quite nice. They're firsts but had some flaws (including that one, and some ruffled broguing on the inside of one shoe), so they bumped the pricing down to seconds for me.

Anyone have pics of the Lake Shore Dr?  Also, how do they fit compared to the other shoes?  I wear 9.5D for my Strands, Amoks, McAllister, MacNneil etc.

Would anyone want expound on the virtues of the Independence collection? Why are they more costly? What makes them better? For instance, what makes the Williams better than the MacNeil?

The leather uppers are much nicer. So are the insoles, outsoles, lining, heels, and finishing.

Plus, they come in heftier boxes and shmancier linen shoe bags

The leather is a french calf that goes through a veg tan and a chrome tan, making it quite a bit more soft and supple. They are then lined with lambskin as opposed to calf. And then theres the small detail differences like the outsoles, insole, shoe bags, and box.
