That creasing is abnormal imo, looks like loose grain.

Quality leathers (with tighter grains - i.e. AE shoes) should not be creasing like that.

I found some horses on Tuesday.  At first I thought that I had found some shell cordovan at the source, but then I realized that any shell cordovan shoes made from the horses that I found would probably be bronzed, like some people's baby shoes.  (For fans of pictures of AE shoes in the wild, I'm wearing khaki grain McTavishes.)

In addition to a SWB, AE has some other holes in its lineup of "classic" shoes, including:

* white buck & dirty buck (am I forgetting something?)

* pebble grained LWB (I got my walnut Macneil before they dropped it)

* loafer for folks with high insteps (they keep creating them, then dropping them, e.g. the McGraw)

* higher end boat shoe (which is weird since I think AE was involved somehow with the start up of Rancourt)  AE's made in DR boat shoe is too expensive for a cheap boat shoe and not of the same quality of a Rancourt. Sort of neither fish nor fowl.

* a (non-golf shoe) spectator.  They dropped the Broadstreet and replaced it with nothing (though you can get a spikeless Heritage for an extra $40).

If the McGraw runs way too large for anyone who has this issue, don't forget about the Patriot / St. Thomas / Hyde Street / Ascher....

well at least we know Levi's horses don't have any tiger striping...

..otherwise they'd be called Zebras

Thanks for that bit of QC Levi...:)

Double Post

After @Neo1 convinced me that the Westchester Shell might be a fit demon AND that the Harrison was best bet for black cap toe (ty again for that bit of wisdom), I went to find my 8.5 D Harrisons and poof! they're gone...que sera...

So turning our attention elsewhere...is anybody here responsible for the 9D brown Shell Strands that keep returning to SB via the Freeport store?

Am terribly interested (much as my wallet would hate me for it) but the whole "it' gone/it's back/it's gone/it's back" has me worried that there's some obv defect to be worried about

Looking at the 8.5D inventory... Central Park could be your thing if you're into it, or the Hanover, again if you're into it. Black shell PAs in 9D possibly worth waiting for until the next sale...

If you're usually 8.5D, you might want to consider shell in 8E. They have the Park Ave in brown, black, and burgundy shell in 8E. Might be worth a shot for you.

I have it from good authority that shell seconds will be $399 for the Memorial Day sale in outlets starting May 11.

Any word on if certain calf is included as well? I know shell seems to rule this thread, but a black shoe is on my radar next so I don't think I want to shell out for...shell.

Heh. Once you go shell, you never go back.

I have a pair of shell kenwoods that are definitely one of my favorite pairs...but I got those for $149 (after double checking there wasn't a price error) almost a year ago.

As much as I'd love to continue buying shell, I have a couple more holes to fill before I go all in.

+1... ;-)

Shell Westchesters from Shoebank came in today. Very nice shoes. Unfortunately, too wide at D width, especially around the heels and the quarters. I noticed that the inner top line was slightly higher compared to the outer. Is that a normal thing on loafers?

That's what I hate most about the 97 loafers - no matter how tight the toe box is up front, the heel is still super large, which is why going to an E ruined the fit for me. Cc808324 - you found the toe box ok on the D width? You must really be on the narrow side. Might be worth looking into the 222 last.
