Can a cobbler do anything about these micro cuts on these shoes, or are these doomed to always looking like this? Would you guys wear these out in public as is, without socks?

Thanks for the detailed response. I stopped by the store the other day with intentions of buying a pair of McAllisters in merlot. They mentioned that they will honor the sale price; however, they didn't have a single pair of what I wanted in the various sizes close to 8C in stock. As per SA, in order to get the sale price, I would need to order all the size that I wanted to try, and have them shipped to my house. I am sure he wouldn't mind if I took them all back to the store and had him evaluate the fit. A bit of a hassle, to be honest.

You are correct, my feet are narrow, long and flat, and they vary in size.

It  is interesting that you mentioned the 333 last. I thought this last is supposed to be on the wide side. Certainly, the University and Larchmont are attractive shoes. I will check them out.

Lastly, what has your experience been with the 8 last?

Thank you

The 108 last....an excellent question.  I always sort of overlook that one because I just don't like it, but I'll try to be objective.  The styles on the 108 have what I thought was a narrower, more tapered front toebox, so they feel less roomy upfront than something on the 65.  Not really an issue, as I feel like the 65 styles have more than enough room in the toebox already.  My problem is that the 108 runs shorter than the 65.  You see, with high arches, length really affects what will get "hit" by the top of the shoe.  I take a 7D in basically all 65 last styles.  I would take a 7D in the 108 but the fit just isn't as good due to the shorter length.  Going to a 7E or 7.5D made things worse, not better.  But the good thing (for me anyway) is that I'm not really into the styles on the 108 anyway.  So in that sense I don't care.  Could I search high and low for something I liked on the 108?  Probably - maybe something in chromexcel might be better.  But I would definitely go with my 65 size.

Also wanted to note, had similar arch trouble with the Sapienza & Bellerive, but again, changing size would exacerbate the issue.

BTW - that bold comment didn't make me too happy.  I would pick an outlet store (any of them will do) and clean out the SMU shell cords they have, all sizes, and then return them all to that store.  See how they react to that.

Chris

Chris's comment is spot on.  But I went with my normal 65 size - did not go down.  AE's photography isn't good - they don't look at all orange.  They used to be one of my favorite pairs, until I picked up the Kiowa & San Marco.

Whoah, Portland boots! I wonder if the Burkigton in Union square NYC will have anything cool in my size. AE seems to have stopped supplying the Century 21 near my house. frown.gif

Man, if that McAllister was an 11.5D. I'd get it in a heart beat.

I do, but typically for foul weather. Granted I had a few less pairs last year. This year I have more to choose from.

I thought a First Communion and Derby Day would be a good time to debut the Shreveport. If they keep squeaking, they are going back.

Two different Portland boot GMTO's being tossed around on the AE MTO thread right now.

I made one of these disappear from SB. They also had a brown shell Strand. I love these little suprises!

I also don't necessarily see  any reason to stop wearing them , though it will be less frequent.
Part of the reason is, I don't have any other short wing blucher.....

Nice. And yes, I wear my boots year round (although I didn't have nearly as many to choose from last summer - damn you, SF!).

In terms of my more recent purchases, I likely will not wear the tan dublin Long Branches because they've got a chunky mini lug sole and thick red boot laces. The walnut shell Dalton are more appropriate for summer because they're unlined. And I will probably wear my chukkas and the oxblood First Avenues, too.

I'm surprised it took this long, but I finally caught some flak from the wife for the shoe-photography thing. We were heading out to a friends yesterday and I brought my laptop to show him a few Photoshop tricks to help with a budding photography hobby. I was wearing my Neumoks, grabbed my Neumok messenger bag, and then put everything on hold for 5-10 minutes while I took the shoes off and shot the two together.

I heard about it all the way to the house, for a while at the house, and the topic resurfaced on the way back from the house. It was super blisscake with rapture sauce, but whateva, whateva - I do what I want!

I hope you guys are having a great weekend!
