What about the Strand in bourbon? Or maybe walnut? Or should I really be thinking about a blucher?

Thanks for any advice - I'm pretty new to this.
I wear the walnut grain MacNeil with dark denim a lot, also the McTavish in both cognac and natural tan. Dark brown Clark St also I've tried and for something a bit nicer, I'll wear my dark brown Mora 2.0. Also an older merlot AE blucher I have (can't remember the name). Lots of choices for you in AE's lineup....J

PS someone a few pages back posted their walnut McAllister with dark denim - awesome look. Can't go wrong with nearly any wingtip, with denim. J. Edit: I think it was Burzan

Not exactly sure as I was mainly looking at the Dalton in Walnut. I did mention that I was giving the brown version some consideration, however, and the SA did not give me the impression that that would be an issue.

As you know, the Harrison is built on the 333 last. I have both the University and the Flatiron which are also on the 333 last and I really love the longer squared off toe, but I don't find the need to go with a shorter length. I wear a 9D in the 333 last and the 8 last and both fit my foot perfectly. As compared to the 5 last, I wear either a 9D or 9E depending on the style. So for my foot the length is the same, but the 5 last width is more narrow than the 333 or 8 last.

I find that the balmoral brogue 5 last styles like the McAllister and Strand don't stretch/give as much in the width as the 5 last blucher or non-brogue styles and so for the 5 last balmoral brogue styles a 9E fits my foot so much better than a 9D.

Sorry for the rambling answer.

I think this explanation was absolutely accurate.  Myself, I have to go with the same width between 333 and 65 just because going to an E sort of makes the whole shoe too roomy but agree the balmoral 65 styles definitely don't stretch much, like he said.  Wanted to add though that something like the Neumok (balmoral 65 with a more flexible leather) do have that extra give, so wouldn't recommend the width change for something like that.

Interested in the Harrison myself. How is the instep of the 333 compared to the 5? I am a 8.5E on the 5...slightly wide foot, but high instep....wondering if I should just get the 8.5D for the Harrison.

Also, how does the new 201 last compare to the 5?

What would you think about a Larchmont or a Neumok for denim (probably in a walnut/acorn color)? Maybe a little better than a Strand or McAllister (the Larchmont is not a balmoral, and the Neumok just looks a bit more casual)? And would you not think about the balmoral-with-jeans issue? Thanks again for all the good advice.

Went to Somerset to the AE store to look for the Firenze but came upon the Urbino, anybody have an opinion on it? Seems narrow and shorter, which is ideal for my foot. The leather is soft but I was curious about what others thought.

@lvrpl as long as the shoe is in a walnut or more casual color, the bal blucher distinction makes virtually no difference. A slight edge will go to the blucher wingtip. Stay away from a black bal and jeans.

Hi all-- does anyone have any inside information on when the traditional spring AE sale will start? Or know on which dates the sale has started in the past? I'm ready to pull the trigger on some Daltons but I want to wait until they go on sale. Yes, I know there's the Nordstroms option right now, but I'm shooting for a color other than walnut.

The Dalton won't go on sale until RDA in the fall, so you might be waiting a while if you don't want walnut.

See if your SA will match the price. The Dalton will not be in the April sale.

Oh, shoot. Bubble burst.

So what is the general consensus on walnut in the Dalton (vs. other colors) in terms of versatility? I have walnut strands and I love them, but their level of flash makes them a little less versatile than my other similar shoes. So, same thing with the boots I'm guessing?
