Also a little concerned with how these holes are lining up on this one.

Otherwise they're pretty darn sweet.

I wouldn't worry about the sole channel. The eyelets are indeed a bit misaligned, but if those are seconds I would say you got away with a steal. If they're firsts, you might want to ask for an exchange. Depends on your preferences. Some people can't stand misaligned eyelets, others don't really mind. I fall into the latter category.

A little off topic, but I have a pair of cordovan 2nd daltons that have misaligned eyelets. They never bothered me too much, but I used this lacing technique this week on them and it made them look perfect!

Just enjoy the boots unless the eyelets really bother you. I generally am not bothered by misaligned eyelets and find that most of the time, especially with criss-cross lacing, that it's hard to notice them.

As these sales are commissioned, didn't my SA take $$$ out of his own pocket? Awesome. I will say that my AE customer service experience was touch-and-go at the beginning (and may have been due to my ignorance about their process), but they have rebounded in fine fashion with their accommodations during GMTO's, shoebank purchases and brick and mortar store sales. They've made me wonder why makers like Alden don't follow suit with similar "less-than-perfect" or second quality shoe offerings. AE must save a boatload on the shoebank sales...what do Alden/Meermin/Carmina/etc. do with their second quality stuff?

As an aside, does anyone in the AE community have thoughts on the quality of Frye's shoe offerings? I saw a sand suede LWB from them in the Rack for $100 - goodyear welted, leather sole, etc.  I hear about their boots all the time, but never their shoes.

How much of a discount was it?  I have an order for a pair of brown shell Strand's currently and might call & ask about this if there's an upcoming sale if they'd honor a price adjustment.  Might wait until the sale is live though to do so.

As for Alden, they do have second quality shoes for sale, I am on the list for The Shoe Mart (TSM) where they email monthly the second quality offerings.  There are some good prices but they sell out pretty quick

Update: I emailed and they said if the shoes I ordered are on sale during the Spring Anniversary Sale (April 10th-27th) that I could call in for a price adjustment :thumbs-up:

^This. He didn't know what the actual percentage off would be, so offered to adjust once the discounts were determined. I've never seen Shell Strands in my size on the Bank, so I was on it regardless of the offer made...  Sorry, April sale is what was referenced. The Shoe Mart info is useful... thanks so much!

Little confused here - when you're referring to percentage off of shell, you are talking about the upcoming April sale, right?  I just got the retail store's sale flyer so I am assuming that whatever is part of the sale in the retail store will be discounted on the bank also - there was nothing about shell that I saw.  On the positive side, I thought the sale prices were decent.  On the negative side, there wasn't a lot included.  Plus I just realized that something that actually got my attention (the Addison) was something I tried in the past and it fit like bozo the clown, so it was probably built on my "favorite" last, the 234.

Whose idea was it to name them after airport codes?  Kind of off-putting.

As for the shoes themselves, I'll reserve judgment until I've seen them in person.  The LGA may have MTO possibilities.  It's on the 1 last, which is promising.

I picked up the Desert Mountain, which is basically the spikeless golf shoe version, it has soft rubber nub/tread and its actually quite grippy on grass.  I don't play golf, but I do go to the park with my daughter and kick around the soccer ball, throw a Frisbee, and hit a ball back and forth with rackets.  They are PERFECT for that.  Best $60 I've spent in a long time.  Just make sure to order at least a half size larger, they are quite tight.

Is it me, or is the AE mobile site now rather broken for iPhone (5S)? The screen does not size right when browsing shoes.

!!!!

The page is really screwed up - I think now the reviews and descriptions show up correctly but the screen sizing is still off for the shoe selection like you said.

In case anyone wants to complain about the Voyagers, you could own these badboys from Prada instead - yes these are real, saw them in store (but minus the kiltie):
