AE did not do them any justice with their web pics. (I'd like to think I helped out the look by adding the lighter colored laces.)

While speaking of suede, there are some great brown/chocolate/snuff options on the shoebank site right now. These Fullertons are only $117. Many other options like the brogue strand, neumok, mcgregor, 5th avenue, patriot, cavanaugh can all be had for under $160. For that price, a pair might be worth buying and stashing until the fall.

I was dropping off some donation items at Goodwill today.

Came across a pair of Lombards - in great shape.  The heels and soles (V-thread) show no signs of wear.

Wrong size (I'm a 9D) - it's an 8.5D.

But I couldn't resist buying them.  I brought them home, put a little Saphir Renovateur and brushed them up.

I have a friend that (I think) wears 8.5.  I'll give them to him, and if not, I may just put them on Ebay.  Anything above $8 is profit!

Here's a few pics:

As these sales are commissioned, didn't my SA take $$$ out of his own pocket? Awesome. I will say that my AE customer service experience was touch-and-go at the beginning (and may have been due to my ignorance about their process), but they have rebounded in fine fashion with their accommodations during GMTO's, shoebank purchases and brick and mortar store sales. They've made me wonder why makers like Alden don't follow suit with similar "less-than-perfect" or second quality shoe offerings. AE must save a boatload on the shoebank sales...what do Alden/Meermin/Carmina/etc. do with their second quality stuff?

As an aside, does anyone in the AE community have thoughts on the quality of Frye's shoe offerings? I saw a sand suede LWB from them in the Rack for $100 - goodyear welted, leather sole, etc.  I hear about their boots all the time, but never their shoes.

How much of a discount was it?  I have an order for a pair of brown shell Strand's currently and might call & ask about this if there's an upcoming sale if they'd honor a price adjustment.  Might wait until the sale is live though to do so.

As for Alden, they do have second quality shoes for sale, I am on the list for The Shoe Mart (TSM) where they email monthly the second quality offerings.  There are some good prices but they sell out pretty quick

Update: I emailed and they said if the shoes I ordered are on sale during the Spring Anniversary Sale (April 10th-27th) that I could call in for a price adjustment :thumbs-up:

A couple more pics... from last week. Walnut (or brown?) Fenway with othello rubber sole.

Pretty sure these were my first AE's ever purchased, prior to nailing down proper fit. Since they are 1/2 size too big, I added some tongue pads and relegated them as my non-boot/rain beaters.

Again, sorry for the crappy cell pics.

The Ord...is...actually I was taught that if I don't have something nice to say, I shouldn't say anything  at all.

The Ord is terrible.  How can AE put their brand on a shoe of that style?

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
LEAD Technologies Inc. V1.01

I have noticed these popping up on the shoebank - for the same price as the first.

The manager at my local AE store was very excited about this collection, especially since I struggled to find a good fit in the rogue (mentioned here in previous posts). Not sure I share his same enthusiasm.

That said, if the LGA or LAX fit like a glove and are super comfy I could make them work.

If the LGA is the long promised short wing blucher we've all been waiting for, I will be less than pleased...

The black and green watch plaid is actually pretty damned nice looking. The “Fudd”...not so much, but I'm sure there's someone who could make those sing with the exactly right ensemble. Note though that “The Fudd” only has four eyelets—that watch plaid BB variant has the full five, and has the cord laces while The Fudd has flats.

I only found one pair of those in bumping around all over town at the three Burlingtons I haunted.

What an interesting variant!

The weird thing is, they have no secondary branding like the BBs do (Which have the Brooks Brothers name inside). Just “Allen Edmonds” as if it was a regular AE shoe. And these have four eyelets and flat laces as opposed to the five eyelets and could laces that the watch plaid and tartans you linked have.

IN ELMER FUDD'S VOICE: “What a schwange buuurrd this is.” LOL!

Just picked up some Oxblood daltons. Was curious if this cutout on the bottom seems a little too close to the edge?

Also a little concerned with how these holes are lining up on this one.

Otherwise they're pretty darn sweet.
