I agree with the same size in 65 and 333 last - that is what I did. However, the 333 last will feel more roomy than the 65 last.

How does the 333 last compare to the 65 last? I have a 8.5EEE in the 65, what would you recommend in the 333 last?

Thanks!

I am an 8.5e in the 5 last but a 9D on the 333. 9D is my Brannock size. I've tried of 8.5e in the 333 and it also fits well, just a touch short.

I will be in the US in Cleveland and Pittsburgh for a week in May and wonder if there is a stockist for AE cordovan Dundee Chukkas nearby. Being from the UK these are not available here and I would love to try a pair with a view to buying.

Example of how YMMV. I wear a 9.5 D in the 65 and feel they fit reasonably well, albeit perhaps a touch snug. I picked up the Larchmont on the 333 in the same size and find it much too tight, it pinches on my outer toe.

Unfortunately there is no stock of cordovan from AE, all of them are a custom order now. However, sometimes they do have models floating around. Its best to call a store and tell them your intentions. If you just want to see what one looks like in person they can probably find one and bring it in to that store. If you want to try one on for size you might be out of luck, but can try a shoe on in a similar size for that last.

My store had an unlined walnut shell dalton on display for a while, no telling where that came from.

11.5D 65 and 12D 333 for reference.

That's a pity as they ( and Alden) don't deliver to the UK and I am a very infrequent visitor to the U.S. oh well. baldy[1].gif

Don't see how that's possible...
I'm an 11.5D in both the Park Ave and Strand, as well as 11.5D in University. Your 11.5 D 65 lasts must be too small, actually 😊

Try giving the Cleveland (Woodmere) store a call -  (216) 591-0344 and ask if they have any display models. Email, if you prefer. It's not likely to be in your size, but they'll have other shoes on the same last which should give you some idea of fit before ordering. If they don't have the Dundee in shell, they'll have another shoe in that last and likely *something* in shell for you to see the color.

If that's not sufficient, and you can arrange a stop-over in Newark / NYC, or Philadelphia, a few more options open up.  I know the PHL store has shell Dundees on display.

EDIT: I see the problem is in part about shipping. THAT can be tough. Shell will require you order the shoes weeks before you arrive and have them delivered to the store for pickup. Have you ever tried calling Port Washington to see if they can do international shipping for you? Allen Edmonds also has an outlet in Italy, if you're okay ordering seconds (and they have your size)...

Length wise those two sizes are spot on. Granted I haven't tried an 11.5D 333 but the 12D felt good enough and the foot fell in the right spot. Laced up nice and snug. 65 last 12D is a touch long. PA and the McAllister below fit the same, along with a slight gap in the ankles. The 11.5D fit is spot on in length and the ankle gap closes nicely. I can't wear more than dress socks or the lace gap will open up quite a bit. I had hopped to replace my 12D PA's with a 12D Harrison but didn't act fast enough.

I did find the Independence insole and lining made the 11.5D to snug though. So standard leather is the way to go for me.
12D (midweight wool sock)

11.5D (AE dress sock)

333 vs 65 both 12D

The other option would be to check the shoebank.com site for one in your size. A retail store can bring it in for you to look at try on. They may be able to work with you on the sale if its good enough to your liking. If you wanted 1st quality though they'd have to order and it take a few weeks. Which doesn't help much unfortunately.

@csmitty

The 3 last looks 100 times better than the 5 last. After trying on a pair of carmina, my AE shoes just don't seem right anymore frown.gif

Really is two different looks between Carmina and AE regardless of last. I have held off on Carmina as they are really too sleek for me. Though with the exchange rate I may have to give in and get one of their boots...there have been some nice ones lately.

Really? Well to each his own. I'm glad I sold my black fifth avenue, I rarely ever worse it and when I did I felt like a over 50 year old man. AE did the right thing with the carlyle though!

Of course Carmina is almost double the price of AE, unfortunately I won't be buying them for a while as our Canadian dollar is in the toilet

Completely agree with this one. Even Carminas casual shoes look sleek. They really are different from each other and I cent really say one is better than the other. They are just different from each other. Having said that I'll probably get Carmina for dressier make ups (eg. Whole cuts, plain toe dubs).
