Thanks for your thoughtful tip.  The Harrison's eyelets are misaligned on one shoe, and the bar lacing just brings attention to that fact.  I might try it with the Universities, but I do like just being able to pull the strings and tighten the shoe.  Some of my clients and people I run into might find the bar lacing a little too precious; I'm already pushing the envelope with what I'm doing now.

Although not AE, here is another criss-cross lacing job for your enjoyment . Now you won't have to worry about working off that big lunch!

Try european straight lacing. It's inconspicuous with balmorals and you can pull the laces to tighten.

Thanks! I saw your post about honey leather in the MTO thread and ordered some. Not sure if id put it on the upper, but will do on the soles.

Shaker Heights in brown/olive tweed for $217 is a steal.  I have the Brooks Brothers version (brown with navy/red tartan) and they are amazing.  The color of brown leather they use is fantastic.

Someone please buy these all up so I don't spend $217 on another pair of boots I don't need!

New patriots. Amazed at the fit... Snug, but comfortable.

Looking great! Could you comment on how you sized them in relation to your 5-last size if possible?

hey dudes, my Bleecker Street (seconds) came in. let me know your thoughts on the imperfections and if it is acceptable or not.

also, i am an 11d on brannock and got a 10.5d in these and they fit somewhat large. i would say there is a thumb width of space between my toes and the tips of the shoes. is that too large?

thanks.

Same size as I take in the 5. I find the Patriot tighter in the ankle/heel/instep, but roomier in the toe box.

Sharp! I need Summer shoes. I think I'm going to start with Kenwoods or Lowry Hill.

@thefastlife Bleeckers look good. You're going to get creasing around the ankles of a calf chukka as the shoe breaks in, so I wouldn't sweat that, especially if you got them for 177.

The 5 last has an elongated toe, so extra toe length is usual. As long as your ball is lined up with the widest part of the shoe, you're good to go.

I wonder where MWS has been...

Most of my knowledge about shoe construction has been from MWS and ColdIron :-)

Thank you for the kind words, however I do not even come close to belonging in the same sentence as MWS when it comes to shoe construction knowledge! Hope all is well with you and the family WI.

If possible try each and all of them on and pick the best fit. As long as it is something you also like and fits your style IMO. The Patriots are one of the few loafers that fit me well without heel slip. I ended up purchasing them in both brown and burgundy shell. The brown shell I had B. Nelson resole similar to the Alden antique welt and am looking forward to summer and the opportunity to wear them again. More snow tonight, it is a ways off yet for me :(
