Wear these with shorts? Maybe you dont wear shorts at all, I don't know... Just wondering, maybe these are too dressy for shorts... I normally do a penny loafer with shorts but not a leather sole.. By shorts Im talking tan/stone silk/cotton blend and silk button ups - mostly Tommy Bahama stuff...

I normally wear 11.5 D in the 5 last and I wear those type of shorts but I don't know if I'll wear these or the Navy ones with shorts or jeans.  I wore these chocolate ones the other day with some cream colored slacks and got a lot of compliments.

Awesome. Thanks for the replies.

Any experience with the Navy Pier in stone suede?

It however does seem to be more suited to your needs.  I would wear it with shorts.

I'm going to buy a new pair of AE redan golf shoes which is 511G last. I am 10D on Alden Berrie, what should be my ae size?
I'm outside Usa, online order is the only one option.

I had to size up from 10.5 3E on the 511 last to 11 3E on the 511-G last, due to the orthotic insole. I wonder if others have had to do the same.

They may not be everyone's cup of tea, but for a little over $200 I got two pairs of casual summer loafers that I will get tons of wear out of, and in my opinion they look better than what AE has to offer in the casual/DR-made loafers.

Ha...I bought those things almost right when the were first released - paid full retail at Bloomingdales, remember it quite well.  Surprised to see this in an AE thread, but at any rate, these were fantastic.  The gold cup line is crazy superior to the normal line.  I had an argument with my local SM not too long ago - he was saying how he preordered those new AE boat shoes (you know the ones I am talking about, the ones that look like they should be worn by Idina Menzel in Wicked) and I mentioned how I thought Sperry Gold Cup were the best you could get.  We went back and forth and he basically said that DR-made AE was better than something made in China.  Let's face it - the made in America AEs are the best, but I would not swear by their boat shoes by any means :)

After much trial and error, I have finally (I think) solved the riddle of the 511 last for me. While I am a solid 11.5D on 5 last and the new 201 last (I just acquired a pair of Rogues in chili) and the 108 (Mora), I have struggled with the Dalton and Long Branch. I just acquired some Natty Shell Daltons in a 12E, and they are perfect, while the Long Branch is a 12D for me.... Just working on some dry shell on the tongues with some conditioner on these beauties! To me, the 511 is a short running and narrow tapering last, compared to the others. I can wear 11 to 11.5 on all the other lasts, but the 511 has to be the 12 for me. Any agreement out there?

I'll second that.  My Gold Cups must be 7-8 years old and, despite showing their scars, are still holding up well.   Much better than their standard line.  Unfortunately, I recently saw the current version in a local store and I didn't think the leather seemed as supple as my old ones.

Replacing them presents a dilemma.  I can imagine the merits of both going cheap or going whole hog (Rancourt-esque).   AE's offerings seem to be in the middle and have neither the merits of throw away price or heirloom quality.

Wa-hoo! Was wondering when someone would post natural Daltons! Killer boots.

I tend to agree about the 1 last, though my 10.5 3E 5-last suze is still the best fit for 511 as well. It's definitely a little shorter. In all 3 of my 1 last shoes (bradley, dundee, long branch), I've had initial discomfort in my left foot, which measures an 11 brannock compared to 10 for my right foot. In all three cases, the discomfort has gone away after 3 carpet-only wears, during which the shoes molded to my long big toe better.

Congrats on the Daltons.

I wear the same size in both the 511 and 65 last - my Brannock size.

Gents,

Lots of interesting talk here on loafers. I find I like tassel loafers and full straps because they can be dressed up with a full suit, where as penny loafers really should not be. Of course, I have all three variants. :-)

Thanks for your guidance, seems 10.5D is way to go after reading on Ae website that 511g is a little bit wider than 511.
@peppercorn78 Is the stock insole really that bad uncomfortable or you need to use prescribed orthotics?
