My first pair of seconds came in today. These are some of the flaws I noticed. I'm new to this so pardon my lack of knowledge. I see a mark on the front of the shoe, can this be polished out? There's an odd bulge near the ankle as if the leather wasn't placed evenly. The polish/coat on the heel is uneven and coming undone - is this usual? Can it be fixed by recoating a layer? The stitching on the front of the cap toe looks like it is loose. Lastly, on the sole of the shoe, parts of the stitching look as if they've been tightened too much. Thoughts on whether I should keep these or return them to a retail store?

@J1994

The only that would concern me is the stitching in the front....and from the picture that looks ok to me

For seconds those are fine shoes, and you will get many years of wear from them. Keepers. Polish em up and wear em!

I'm severely tempted by the Williams in brown on the Shoebank at $177.  Anyone pulled the trigger on these yet and want to share some in the wild shots?

To answer a question that came up before, I would definitely not size down with the 65 last. Zero extra room. A little snug even, but I'm a little wide for a 9D.

Incidentally, AE has effectively extended their "Extra 20% of Clearance" deal by simply lowering the clearance prices once the promotion ended. If you're someone like me who just can't bring themselves to spend $385 on new shoes, this is the opportunity to buy. Classic models tend not to be on clearance (especially not in traditional colors), but there's still plenty of choices.

Finally, I also ordered the Sturgis in black to see if I liked it. An attractive boot, but I'm not a boot guy, so I feel like the upper part of the upper is constantly poking me.

Thanks for sharing, I did not know this.  I'll share an equally useful piece of info - generally the same size can be worn on all the lasts, but it is best to get measured by a master fitter at one of the retail stores.

Got these dundee seconds...great except this crease... these must have been display models as the have lots of creases and no sole wear. I don't think I can look at that every time I wear them...

I picked up a pair of brown Williams last week and they are very handsome shoes indeed.

Unfortunately the left shoe is very tight on the outside of my big toe; almost like the shoe sits crooked on my foot. It's a shame because cosmetically these are the cleanest pair of seconds I've yet to receive. That being said, the Williams has to be the best deal currently offered at Shoe Bank. $177 for an Independence line offering is tough to pass up.

yeah that will be very much visible all the time, I had almost similar issue with the bleecker street. I think it's something to do with the chukka design in leather ( though it's more pronounce here) , suede chukka will never have this issue.

They should create a separate thread solely for people who are completely happy with their AE's and want to show them off...this one has basically turned into a sizing issues/complaints/seconds thread

Was just in AE and found out next sale will be "in April" McTavish will not be on sale (which is what I was in to see) but McAllisters will be on sale. Didn't ask anymore specifics.

I sure was wanting to pick up some brown McTavish on Discount, but I'm going to need to pull the trigger at $295 it looks like... Not sure my feet can wait much longer.

AE's "anniversary sale" tends to run from the middle of April until the end of the month. They usually discount a few of their classic styles along with other styles. If I recall correctly, the McAllister and Lexington were both discounted last year. Can't remember all the others, but it's not nearly as big of a sale as the yearly Rediscover America (RDA) sale, which happens in October.

I feel like I am so done with the USPS.  I sold a pair of Daltons and shipped USPS Priority Mail.  The tracking info says they were delivered on Valentine's Day.  But the buyer never received them.  Buyer has never had a problem with deliveries to his doorstep before.  We both think the USPS screwed up.  Maybe they'll show up but I'm not optimistic.

I don't like UPS either (prefer FedEx) but seriously thinking about not using USPS to ship anymore...

I'm in the market for some McAllisters, probably in Merlot or similar. Did they give any hint as to price?
