You should get the McTavish anyway - yes, completely agree it is different.  Some of the 65s fit larger than the others, like the McTavish, Black Hills etc. but I can usually get by with heavier socks.  As much as I love the Neumok, I wear the McTavish way more often.  Not to mention with the Neumok being unlined, I freeze my @$$ off with it wearing it in the winter weather.

Hi,

Fairly new to AE's, I have a pair of Walnut Strands in 8.5E.

The fit is pretty good, though I find the instep area on my right foot is a bit tight (ie. I use straight lacing on the shoes and the vamp is pushed wide on the right foot).

Two questions:

i) Which lasts would you recommend?; and

ii) If I stuck with a 65 last, how should I size up? ie. 9D or 8.5EE?

Thanks in advance for any advice, would like to pull the trigger on a pair with the clearance and shoebank sales right now.

I was able to resist the Rush Street in Olive - thought about it a LOT but in the end, I know I would be kicking myself for not getting the brown.

This isn't easy - but I'll try my best.

Sounds like in the 65, maybe an 8.5EE would be better (?) From what you described, the 108 would likely be similar.  97 probably not a good idea.  511 might work in an E.  My SM actually wears an 8.5E and I see him wearing many styles in the 222.  Hard to say, people usually don't go with their exact brannock measured size on the 65 last.

Anyone know how long this sale is going to be? I'm going to call them on Monday from work because I'm cheap and won't pay for long distance icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gificon_gu_b_slayer[1].gificon_gu_b_slayer[1].gificon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Also if I tell them to ship USPS, will USPS leave the package? I don't like that with FED EX you have to sign.

Edit on the website it says until Monday

Took a look at shoebank for 8.5E - take a look at the Walnut Black Hills and the McTavish in Grey and Black - rock bottom prices and both should run larger than the strand.

Curious as to what you decided on to replace the San Marco -

All three pairs of mine shipped fedex were just left at my doorstep  :puzzled:

The red Neumok looks nice, but it's a little too red for me.
Do you think it could be made more of a "chili" color with brown shoe cream?

Going to get the Eagle river. Same last (222) but I figured it being a boot, the toe area will be bigger. I did some googling and it seems the pictures on the AE website are much darker than in person. So my plan is to use some medium brown polish to darken them.

My last pair I had them ship it to a family member and she had to sign for it as well. I'll inquire about it. Since I live in Canada, I have them ship it to a USA address (free shipping) and then have it shipped to me for half the price AE would charge me and I avoid extra fees from fed ex:D

I'm never in a rush for anything clothing or shoe related so it works

I have a high instep and would recommend shoes in the 201 last. If you want to stick with the 65 last, I'd recommend going up to 9D for extra room in the instep area.

Thanks for the suggestion.
For the sizing, how do people normally size 8-lasted shoes compared to the 5-lasted ones?
AE describes 8 last as even longer and narrower than the notorious 2 last.

Thanks for the suggestions and tips on the lasts Neo, I'm taking a look now.
